Coronavirus (Non-Politics)

Lots of people talking about a cough/cold/flu going back to New Year in the UK, with symptoms similar to COVID, I wonder how many people have actually had it without realising, which would explain the speed with which it's spread across the world.

I have a cold myself that's been kicking around for about 10 days, I have a cough that is not persistent and is worse in the morning, on waking, and at night. I had a really bad sore throat for a week and have a stuffy nose, and occasional sneezing fits (not that that is anything out of the ordinary, as I never sneeze just once). I have no problem breathing, no fever and no aches or pains that are not part of my normal arthritic type ones. This is the same cold that others in the office have had, which even our lady with leukaemia has had and got over.

Funnily enough, I work in childcare and just before Christmas a lot of staff/ children/ parents were off with exactly the symptoms now being banded about as ones you should self isolate with.

It probably has nothing to do with Covid-19 but it was before the media caught on and could have been that without diagnosis.

At what point does panic buying, simply become survival?

So far, people have been panicking with relative calmness. Give it 2-4 weeks, when/if stocks are really depleted, and that panic will enter overdrive.

I hate to say it, but this could get pretty violent, pretty quickly.

Luckily, I managed to get a healthy supply of Bud Light to see me through the worst of it.

Ha! Not to mention East Reds. :Winking:

I am one of the old 70 pluses in the East Reds (the quiet zone). Although the government may have best intentions regarding us it is really annoying that they are considering quarantining us in our own homes. Surely we should be allowed to go out for a walk, a game of golf etc. As long as we are sensible, which most of our generation are, then we should be OK. Just avoid confined areas with lots of people. Otherwise, along with Roy Hodgson, Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger we will be in solitary confinement.

But not everyone lives in Grays mate, so the rest of us might survive. This, of course, depends on whether I've been banged up for breaching the old gits reservation. Not quite 70 yet but have a tick against some of the underlying bollocks :Winking:

I think troops at the supermarkets is the way forward with a shoot to kill policy if people are deemed to hsve unnecessarily stocked up.
You joke, but you never know. I am thinking all the old Zombie and Apocalypse films we have all seen are coming back to haunt us. It would not surprise me at all to see Mad Max driving down the road in a few months time. ?

Spoke to one of the Tesco staff and they said people are still bulk buying dry pasta, rice, tinned foods etc., but they are still getting normal daily deliveries.

I’ve not changed my shopping habits, but would agree with your strategy of stocking up on the beers ? #essentials

In fairness, Thurrock has slowly started resembling Mad Max for a while now. This **** might just send people over the edge.

Luckily I’ve got a vast arsenal at my disposal, so I’m fully prepared.

Remember mate, If you ever get stuck, you’ve got plenty of amigos on this site, and I’m sure they’ll be happy to help, if needs be.

I am, although you may have to wait a while for me to get up there, as I have to go through the Thunderdome first.

Supermarkets will inevitably have to clamp down on it all. Two of the same item per customer should be mandatory.

The stocking up of the beer (6 cases) was an absolute essential. If I get locked down with the missus for two weeks, I’m gunna need all the listening juice I can get.
