Well done Rayleigh Boy ,my thoughts as well ,I was f put off posting because I thought I was the only 1 who didn' t rate him so highly .I think our no. 4 is a far ember of the squad ,shame he is injury prone !

Wordsworth is an attacking midfielder, Leonard is a centre midfielder. They are completely different roles.

Absolute nonsense. How else is a professional footballer expected to place his desire to change employer on the record? It would appear that Leonard's been entirely professional throughout this.

Can't argue with that. It's players engineering moves without putting in a transfer request which gets my goat

Not sure if we could afford him but Michael Bostwick at Peterborough would be a good replacement. On the transfer list ut unlikely to come cheap.

Agree again, I don't think he's being professional......... Like all the others that have gone before him, take the money and **** him off.

My first post, agree obviously he'll be a big loss but whats all the talk of 700k? For a league one player who could leave on a free in 12 months.......I bet if he goes the figure is closer to half of that.

Hello by the way!

He can place on record his desire to leave, but he better keep on fulfilling his end of his contract. Not playing today because his "heads turned" is not good IMO, and if continues he's effectively downing tools. I'd lose my respect for him if he did that. Nobody made him sign the contract. We'd hardly sulk and beg for a way out if he turned out crap and we had him for another year without wanting him. He should think a little more seriously about which contracts he signs.

A part of me wants him to stay and either A) play if he gets his head sorted or B) rot in the reserves. I don't have time for people who don't honour contracts. If we get a good offer let him go, but I don't wish him well.

Welcome to ShrimperZone Shhh!

Rumour has it that Ron rejected a £500k bid this week, after an initial bid of £350k, assume £700k is seen as the next big landmark figure.

£700k plus the cost of his flights and hotel to Spain.

Must've known before that trip he wanted to hand in his transfer request

He probably did, which is yet further testament to his professionalism that he agreed to go on tour and go through the pre-season with us until such a time that Sheffield United have made further bids/approaches. The club has stood its ground, which it has every right to, and Leonard has told the club he'd rather leave via a transfer request, which he has every right to. It all looks fairly above board at present. As Beefy said earlier, I'd rather it happen this way than if Leonard was downing tools or whatever in a clandestine approach to forcing his move through.

If he doesn't play the next match (and he's still contracted to us then) will you then say he's downing tools? If his non-appearance continues that's the only logical conclusion right?

I wouldn't have anywhere near as much of an issue if he turned out and fulfilled his contract whilst mentioning his desire to leave.

Hello by the way!

We've already had a bid of 500k......

And hello to you too.

If you don't want to play for my club then go for the right price. If the right price doesn't come along then let him rot in the reserves.

I don't like any of this at all, he wouldn't be anything if it wasn't for Southend United.

I have no idea why Leonard Bentley etc did not sign a new contract, if they are that good then a bigger club will still buy them regardless of whether they have signed it or not, Dutch players sign new contracts and leave upping their transfer bid because they have a loyalty to the club and want the club to get the most they can as a THANK YOU!
However its probably the waste of space agent who tells them not to sign as they are the ones who have done the deal with the buying club, time these useless eaters where banished from football, they have no interest in the player other than how much money they can make from them.
Guess at the end of the day these footballers are dumb to let some smarmy dodgy agent get a cut of their own transfer money, why can't they sort it out themselves hire a solicitor to go through the contracts?
Leonard was one of my favorite players, now he'll be relegated to the 'waste of my time' stack of players like Bailey Bentley Constantine etc

Lenny has given absolutely everything to Southend, if he wants to leave to to play higher, good luck to him. I won't hold a grudge.

If he dosent want to play for the Real Madrid of Essex then sell him Ron,not interested in anyone who dosent want to play for the best team on the planet.Tkae the 500 k and get in another player who does .

There has been some real embarrassing posts from so called grown men. Some of you sound like 13 year old girls who have just been dumped.

Still not been a good few days for the zone. From wages to Timlin and the court case we aren't allowed to discuss.

And you at the centre of it. What a surprise
