Reading through the match thread for our WIN at Coventry City - I see that the moaners still found scope to whinge.
This time our manager (who is doing a great job!!) was called an ARSE. Was this because we were losing? No. We were winning 2-0.
The reason PB is an "arse"?? Because he decided to have a Southend United player on the field rather than a Spurs player who is highly unlikely to be a part of our future after May.
Surely it is not PB's job to give a Spurs player experience UNLESS he feels it will benefit our team? He obviously felt comfortable playing our own players who may well continue to gel and evolve into a very good side as we progress...rather than play the SPURS player.
We won but still they find fault. This time because we did not help out Spurs!
Good luck to Amos. I hope he does well when he gets his opportunity with us, or Spurs or another club.

There is Discussing, and there is looking to improve yourself. It always amazes me that if we win some people think its 'wrong' to find fault because we won. I totally disagree with that, no matter what your job is you should always be looking to improve things - thats common sense surely? You don't wait for something to go wrong and then change it, you proactively look to change it before it goes wrong. I wasn't there. Its the same thing with 'never change a winning team' if 10 players are playing great and one has a complete mare do you keep him in because the team won ( and of course we can't mention he had a mare becasue the team won :winking:) ? We might be able to carry one player , but next time if he and another has a mare its too much and we loose. Is that 'one of thsoie things' or is that something the maanger could have done something about by dropping the guy that had a mare?

There really would be great benefit from having a proper 'reserve team' league, as in the past, where players could play competitive football weekly, rather than warming the bench on a Saturday and playing an Under 21 match here and there.

Do we have to start a thread every time one person criticises the manager?

People will always have a moan at the football. Brown haters do exist, but they are few in number, so why get so worked up about it?

Also it's not wrong to question the minutae of things, even when things appear to be going well overall.

Just glad we are back to winning ways again. Disappointed with the results of the 2 games I was back, Port Vale & Bristol Rovers. However, can see the quality in the team, more so the squad. Always want more, but pleased with what we are right now, where we are is still conjecture, still a lot to play for.

Of course everyone has an opinion...but an "arse" ...for not playing a loaner? That is part of the personal dislike of the manager.

Firstly, bit sad of you to start a thread based on me calling Brown an arse. Maybe I should be a bit flattered that my opinion has cut you so deep from your ivory tower beauty parlour in Spain.

Looking at the bigger picture, I am fed up with Brown spouting how he is going to make changes then never does (changes last night I know but 3 of those changes were enforced)

I am fed up with him taking the glory when we win but when we lose he never takes the rap, it's always someone else's fault.

Brown stated that Amos was doing really well and would be involved in either the Bristol Rovers game or the Coventry game last night. Again, lies. Would have been so easy at 2-0 in the second half last night to take Lenny off, give him a rest and give Amos some game time.

I am really glad we won, would love nothing more than us to push for promotion but the constant spouting of bullshine from Brown is enough to test any supporter except those, like yourself, that have those rose tinted glassed stuck to their eyes.

I just find it odd that the manager is an arse...After a win. After Vale or Brizzle Rovers? We expect the manager to get stick as we did not get the result desired. But for not playing Spurs player? That is in my opinion ridiculous.
As for PB stating one thing and playing another? Is management
Next week he may say "same again" and start Amos. Is his perogative and he is judged on results.

I moaned about this last night because my view is: What is the point is loaning in a young player from another club when we have one more than capable coming through our own ranks, Jack Bridge.

If Brown didn't bring on young Amos at 2-0 up in the 85th minute of a dour contest (when he brought on Nouble) then he is never going to give him a run out. I personally would rather have one of our own warming the bench than some Spurs kid who will go back to his parent club very soon.

That frustrated me last night and I stand by that

Bigger test will be Saturday. Walsall are clearly better than a very very poor Coventry side. Whether we are out of the mini slump will be evident at 5pm Saturday. Last night we did what was required to beat an awful side, some players who came in did well, namely Ranger, Robinson and White, yet others still seemed a little out of form. Therefore hard to judge the team and PB on last night. If the form that saw us lose at Gills and Brizzle Rovers and draw against Port Vale returns on Saturday then questions will be asked

Amazing negativity in this thread, I find it quite annoying actually. We can only face what's put in front of us, good or bad. Over thinking everything is not helpful. Let the manager do his job, please. Bring on Walsall, COYBB

I've been a supporter since 1947 when my father first took me to Grainger Road. I've been a season ticket holder for over 40 years. During that time we have had numerous managers, not one of whom have escaped criticism from the supporters. In my view Phil Brown is probably one of the best managers we've had in the last 70 years. Indeed I believe that only Dave Webb (First time around) and possibly Judas Fry can match him. We should judge Phil Brown by his results and the results he is achieving show how nonsensical it is to call him an "arse".

By all accounts, Wordsworth still wasn't at the races again last night. I just think it sends the wrong message out to the rest of the squad if certain players can play poorly for nearly 2 months and stay in the side.

But that's just my opinion. Yours may be different.

Not "by all accounts" at all.

Watch the extended highlights, note the shot that was just wide after 30 seconds. Note that he could have taken Robinson's cross in and scored himself but left it for Ranger and then followed up in case of a spill. And note also, the intelligence of his set up to Lenny for his goal. He was in their face most of the game, he was at the centre of much of the action and involved in frequent "smart passing" movements, he linked up particularly well with John White.

40% win ratio, yer Brown.

Up there with the highest in the history of the club.
Tut tut, Andy. What have I said about using win ratios? A 40% win ratio could mean a 60% loss ratio. Far more meaningful to quote his average points per game. That said, I am sure that would compare very favourably with our previous managers records as well.

To be honest thou, imo, i was watching the game from the stands and thought that we played pants, i think it was only the fact that Coventry played worse than us that saved our bacon, if we had been playing a semi inform team then we might not of got the result that we did.

But ha ho, 3 points is 3 points.

Snr.

One can still be a successful manager and "arse" - Who is the special one Brown or Mourinho?

If Brown could keep his gob shut sometimes he wouldn't make an "arse" of himself so often. He shouldn't make promises in statements to the press that he can't keep and shouldn't always blame someone else when things go wrong. His ranting at refs is embarrassing - he has been in the game long enough to know what to expect. Whilst I want us to be successful whereas when Tilly was successful I could say it couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke - I could never say the same about Brown.

Kev I would be interested to know how often you manage to see a game these days. As someone who has lived between 40 and 90 miles from Southend for the last 45 years - some of the performances under Brown have been worse than torture to witness after a 2 -3 hour journey. It's far easier to keep up with the score on the radio or online or teletext for those old enough to remember.

All yours, mate :-

Did a quick recce, based on loss ratio and it's about the same, so points per game, adjusted for the 2 pts for a win era, will produce the same results, IMHO.

Think these things even themselves out, once 50+ games are included as the minimum benchmark.

I wish I could have put my point across as well as you have. What you have said is exactly how I feel about Brown

Fair point Andy. Still don't like the stat, particularly the way Sky persistently roll it out at the first sign of a managerial change. I just hope they don't cotton on to another worthless stat on your hyperlink :- The previously unheard of "GpH" or Games per Honour to the uninitiated. Can just see Jim White, Julian Warren et al having a collective orgasm over that tasty titbit.

Leave Wordsworth out of it, he got 10 goals for us with assist's too. He is different to what we got in the team, as we don't have anyone else that are creative as him. PB is doing fine as he improved us every season since he took over in 2013!
