Art Deco was a collaboration between Mr. Garfunkel and the Portuguese midfield maestro in a sort of 70s ballads meets Lisboeta Fado - truly revolutionary stuff.[b said:Quote[/b] (hexagon_sun @ Sep. 05 2006,13:20)]I'm familiar with Bauhaus's proto-goth rock but I've never heard anything by Arthur Deco - fill me in?[b said:Quote[/b] (Matt the Shrimp @ Sep. 05 2006,13:11)]How many other British cities gave rise to a school of design which went on to heavily influence Art Deco and Bauhaus?

Hmm... since the wife has Weedgie blood in her, not sure I can agree to that![b said:Quote[/b] (Wessex Blue @ Sep. 05 2006,13:37)]I should've explained more clearly. My prejudices are based more on the occupants of the cities not on the actual architecture of the places. On balance the destruction of the majority of both cities would be a blessing from an aesthetic perspective.
Better my half-arsed attempts at humour than some of the bile that has been spewed onto these boards recently... I head off for 4 or 5 days, and all hell breaks loose.[b said:Quote[/b] (Vange Shrimper @ Sep. 05 2006,13:45)]Matt the Shrimp trying to be funny again...
Oh dear.
South Yorks and the southern end of North Yorks aren't faring to well here. It's surprising that area has so many sh!tholes as North Yorkshire (the area around the NYM National Park anyway) is probably my favourite place on the planet.[b said:Quote[/b] (Shrimpersarmy @ Sep. 05 2006,13:52)]I vote for Hull.
Honourable mentions for Doncaster, MK, Grimsby, Bradford and Rotherham.
I think Bath is a beautiful place.[b said:Quote[/b] (C C Csiders @ Sep. 05 2006,13:03)]As mentioned elsewhere the likes of Grimsby, Col******r and Gillingham should go.
But, I would like to add Bath. Can't stand the place.
Good old Essex, eh?[b said:Quote[/b] (Smiffy @ Sep. 05 2006,11:35)]I would like to nominate Jaywick, just outside Clacton...
Spent a nice weekend in a chalet in Clacton, one day thought me and the missus would go for a coastal drive....
Big mistake...
I have never ever seen such a hole in my life..
12 year old girls on street corners..
Teenage mums with 4 kids..
Chavs openly selling scag on the streets..
Numerous ****heads rolling around in the gutters..
Houses with one window, the rest being boarded up..
Torched cars..
Pubs with one letter on the front, even that was hanging off...
An obvious lack of refuse collection..
I think every resident had a tattoo..
That about covers it I think..
I couldnt drive out of the place fast enough, I knew if I stopped I would of probably lost my car, missus and my life...
Do not go there, trust me!.
Ahem, that's north Essex - BIG difference.[b said:Quote[/b] (Jonny_Stokes @ Sep. 05 2006,14:08)]Good old Essex, eh?
Didnt used to be like that back in the 80's. Oh how times have changed....Was actually a nice place when I lived there...[b said:Quote[/b] (statski77 @ Sep. 05 2006,14:10)]I'm gonna go one better here and rather than go for a town I'll go for a region
East London - The place is just one big sh!thole, a big concrete jungle, shocking architecture, & every postcode within the region you have to speak a different language, jeez I could go on forever!!
The east end of london used to have a bit of character about it from the war days but now its just full of imigrants and villans.

Souless place.
They knocked down all of Docklands and re-built that in fine style, & now they've got the olympics coming to re-develop the majority of stratford. All we need now is for the rest of it do be bulldozed and re-built, kick out the villans & imigrants sponging off the state and we'll have a decent area again.
STAT RANT OVER
Well, Matt the Shrimp lives there - it's probably him that's dragged the area down.[b said:Quote[/b] (Vange Shrimper @ Sep. 05 2006,14:10)]I hear that South London's meant to be a bit of a hole too.
Yes, that's the official party line, just to make sure that we scare off any itinerant Cheltenham Uni graduates looking to relocate to the capital...[b said:Quote[/b] (Vange Shrimper @ Sep. 05 2006,14:10)]I hear that South London's meant to be a bit of a hole too.
