your most despised country

I doubt anyone on here knows enough about North Korea to despise it.

The US is a fascinating place, its amongst my favourite countries yet there is plenty about it which I despise. Its insularity I think is due to its sheer size. China had a similar approach, although the state there is trying to make it more outward looking in certain respects. You can almost understand why the US doesn't see the need to long beyond its borders: its almost all there in the US. You want heat? Try Death Valley. You want cold? Try Alaska. You want snow? Try the Rockies. You want surf? Try Hawaii. You want musuems and art galleries? Try DC and New York. You want casinos? Try Vegas. You want extreme conservative right wing views? Try parts of the deep South. You want left-leaning liberal views? Try San Francisco. You want films? Hollywood. You want musicals? Broadway. You want natural wonders? Try the Grand Canyon or Yosemite. A truly fascinating country, albeit with plenty of room for improvement.

Good post and if i could be bothered to write long comments i would have written something similiar.
America looks a great place and is a dream destination for me in a few ways.

When you look at all indicators and social polls Americans as a whole want exactly what the rest of the world wants - Good education, safe environment, good healthcare.
It's what Brits want, Aussies want, Iraqi's want, Mongolians want.
Unfortunately, with the current Administration and it's blatant military/corporate/religious right wing policies the American public will get none of those.

It's strange, because one of the places i hate, has seen some scenes of my greatest joy during my years of watching the Blues. From seeing Adam Locke score (for once), the LDV's and the play off final and Swansea last year!

Wales must have been mentioned already i presume?

Always grim and at least drizzling (or worse).
Too many silly words, that even their own kind dont understand.
Too many hills.
Too many valleys.
Too many welsh!

We should've built a wall, not a bridge!

Not entirely true. There's a region, spread across much of eastern Turkey and touching into Iraq, Iran and Syria, that is known as Kurdistan, the history of which stretches back many millenia; for instance, one of the first accounts of this 'Land of the Kurds' appears in the writings of the Greek politicial philosopher Xenophon in the Fifth Century BC, some 2,500 years ago. By contrast, the United Kingdom is only 300 years old and the United States of America won't celebrate its 250th birthday for another 20 years.

After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, it was to become a separate country but the Treaty of Lausanne of 1923, which defined the borders of modern Turkey, left the people of Kurdistan without their own state and it has remained a region divided between several countries. (In 1992 Iraqi Kurdistan was declared an autonomous entity within Iraq, the only region which has gained official recognition as a federal entity; it has its own local government and parliament, the first step, some say, to the emergence of a 'greater' Kurdistan nation).

So, there's almost a country called Kurdistan on this planet ...

As you said there is a region where Kurdish people live but there is not a country and Kurdish and Turkish people battled together against imperalist countries to get their land back during World War I.

The Turks not imperialist, now that's an interesting concept. What about the Ottoman Empire?

I didnt say they're  . I said Kurdish and Turkish people were against imperialist countries likes France, England, Italy... And they were happy to share their land with Turkish people. If they had wanted their own country in Turkey, they would have been beside France and England against Ottoman Empire.

So the Ottoman Empire was not "imperialist"?! This empire lasted over 600 years and spanned three continents, controlling much of southern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. I'm confused by your notion of "get their land back". The Ottoman Empire controlled the area in question for many hundreds of years; it was not peculiarly subject to conflict over possession per se during WWI so there seem to be some confusion here.

The Turkish War of Independance (1919-22), waged by the Turkish nationalists should have ultimately resulted in the formation of an independant Kurdistan state, as agreed in the Treaty of Sèvres. But it never happened. Maybe that's what you referring to.

I didnt say it wasnt! He asked about Turks! Turks and Ottoman Empire are not the same thing. I dont know if you are English or Spanish but think of Britain and English - are they same? And after WWI, imperalist countries like France and Italy captured the majority of Turkish and Kurdish land. Is it clear now? And what do you mean The Ottoman Empire controlled the area in question for many hundreds of years?

An Independant Kurdish state was never mentioned at that time. They accepted to live in the Republic of Turkey. An independant Kurdish state has been wanted by some Kurdish terrorists and Turkey's rivals just for about 25 years and they can just kill babies and innocent people.

Turkey - Cant stand the thought of it. Its just Dry chicken!
North Korea - Wierd place
Albania - Full of pikeys who try and ruin Corfu
Nigeria - Full of scam and mone laundering
Sierra Leone - Civil war, conflict diamonds, genocide
Chad - Sounds like an annoying american with square hair and big white teeth!

Where is it then. That one nation on earth that you would press the button for?

For me its Belguim, the most pointless place on the planet. It is a bland, featureless and flat piece of land between France and Germany that has nothing to offer the rest of mankind. No brands, no industry, nothing to excite the hapless visitor except the N40 Motorway that takes you out of the place. A country that needs to tell you your entering it THREE times in less than two miles in case you forget. A country that produces one of the most popular beers in the world that everyone thinks is French! A country that puts the Ring Road sign after the exit so the unsuspecting end up in Boring Brussells. Belguim is just a strip of land before France and Germany which is a nessecery hardship to cross from one to another. A country that has never seen a toilet brush.

Wheres yours?

I have to say that some of the best French cooking is found in Belguim. I love Brussels for a weekend visit. Belguim has one of the highest standards of living in Europe.
