Question Your first ever car bump/prang/shunt/crash

I nearly ran over a man on a Penny Farthing when I took my test.:'(

Thought I had better get that in first.

Yes, and I still have the bruises to prove it.

This is an epic one.

It was my fourth driving test. Most of you know where southend driving test centre is, you pull out into two lanes of traffic at a junction. I always got quite nervous on the tests, i was a perfectly good driver in lessons but it all went to **** in the tests.

Well the examiner told me to exit the centre and turn right, so i knew i had to pull out across the nearest lane into the furthest lane to turn right down fairfax drive. There was a queue of traffic so i couldn't do this straight away so i waited in the test centre exit, biding my time for a suitable opportunity to pull out. So far so good. Then the examiner said "You did hear me tell you to pull out and turn right didn't you?", **** i thought, he thinks i can make it round that car that's queuing and into the far lane, so panicking I pulled out. Of course he'd only meant for me to indicate right, as I pulled out around the waiting car aiming for the right turn lane, I heard the horrible sound of metal scrapping metal, as my car scrapped the corner of the car I was going round. The look of horror on the examiner's face was a picture. Shaking he told me to pull over into the carpark of a business, and he wrote a big fat "D" on the assesment form, "D" stands for Dangerous and is of course an instant fail, I had failed my test 6 yards outside the test centre!!!

Luckily most of the damage was to the car i was driving, unfortunately that was my instructors car. So I had to walk back into the test centre waiting room, and infront of all the other instructors waiting for their pupils tell mine "Erm, there's been an accident", less than 5 minutes after I'd left him. Oh the shame!!!

:(:'(

That was in 1998, I haven't driven a car since.

Top that Shrimperzone.

The worst i've done was take out the bush in my drive trying to park.

and when i'm in a car park i sometimes hit the door of the car next to me when i open mine.

You should be more careful when opening your door then, or if you're too close, leave more of a gap when you park. People doing that to my car really annoy me, and usually it inspires me to dent their car in reciprocation....

Dropped a few motorbikes in my time, some at speed, but my first was on a sheet of black ice at night from a water spillage that day. Not fast but it hurt more than one's at speed as we went down very quickly trapping my leg and it was all I could do to stop hitting the car in front. Oh, incidently, the car had stopped in the middle of the road to drop some yoof off at the college for an evening event & didn't see me(!) behind them, and they all walked off/drove off with cars behind me skidding on the same ice - nice! After Essex motorway plods got me banned I moved onto cars to nurse my bike injuries, then kids came along............. c'est la vie

my first drop was on Ice too, on my Honda 50 on the way back from the pub....

I got knocked off on morning on the way to work too, taken the shortcut through Asda at 6 in the morning and approached the roundabout, looked left as saw a van on the main road a good 200 yds away from the roundabout, nothing on the right at all so onto the roundabout....
I just felt that he hadn't seen me , no idea why, so I relaxed a bit, anticipating something, heard the skidding and relaxed further and carried round the roundabout prepared to meet the road if need be, true, a split second later the bike has been pinging from under me. I followed the bike into the ker and stad there , didn't move a muscle. Waited for the driver to walk over thinking he'd killed me before I shouted at him.
Blind twunt just wasn't looking.....

Only done it twice and once was on my dads car and the other just about touched it, I am careful now as i hate it when i see people really hitting the door like they dont give a toss.

Nov 1989

My only major accident occured in my first car which was a burgundy Ford Cortina Mk IV with Black Vinyl roof, it was cheap as my parents would not pay for it, and all I had was a part time job in the Warehouse at Asdas.

My girlfriend at the time was a Nanny and had stayed over at my parents the night, so I had to get up early to get her to work before the kids she looked after woke up. The roads were damp, on the way home I decided to take the short cut through Asda's unfortunately bad decision as I ended up aqua-planing into the 6.30am No7 Bus. I can remember not being able to do anything about it and just looked at a woman on the bus who was looking down at my car heading her way with a look of fear across her face.

The damage to the Bus was 1 dented side panel, the damage to my car was right hand headlamp pushed above the right wheel arch, crumpled bonnet lid, mangled bumper.

Luckily for me my sister's husband was Car Paint sprayer, so he took it to work and fixed it for me for about £120 which I had to pay due to 3rd Party Fire & Theft cover, whereas the Bus cost my insurance over £450 for one panel to be beaten out and sprayed.

Licence in 2005 - First Crash May this year (as some of you know) Coming round a corner on a country lane iin dunmow, and SMASH!!!!!!! Straight into the front off side of a 6 day old Focus ST - never seen a car crumple so much in my life. Pulled the bloke out the wreckage, and got a pat on the back from the policeman.. Then a caution for careless driving, without a jew carer and injection.. Something like that anyway -

Actaully, it might have been without Due care and attention, not sure.. It was sabbath.

:D :D :D

Funnily enough my first crash resulted in me receiving 5 points on my licence. Driving along Rayleigh Road going through Progress Road lights when a car shunted me. I was in a hurry so I got out of the car checked the damage to mine, shattered light and a dented bumper and made a split second decision that as my car was worth the square root of bugger all and the damage was minimal I really couldn't be bothered to exchange details so got back into the car and drove off.

To cut a long story short the tosser that hit me reported me to the police who duly charged me with failure to stop and failure to report an accident. They even wanted to charge me with careless driving which I was frankly amazed at and pleaded not guilty but they ended up dropping that one anyway.
