The 2-1 at our place a couple of seasons ago. Y'know, the one where you all thought you were going to stay up afterwards.

Has to be littles first game in charge. I'm sure I got banned from taking my chips in the ground. They were seen as an offensive weapon. Bloody do gooders. Really believed we'd loose terribly and won handsomely.

Abby game stood in away end, been drinking in the coach and horses pub all morning. when he scored his second the old bill in front of me lost his helmet, next minute it was tossed around the away end, well amusing..

Can remember which year but im sure we beat orient 3-0 or 3-1 at there place when we had standing at the front and sitting at the back .

Got there about 2.30 and was told that the away end was sold out . Cue pushing and shoving by the hundreds of blues still outside .

In the end orient moved there own fans to accomodate ours. Im sure neil campbell scored twice infront of 2500+ southend fans.

Great first trip

Remember it well, fans at both ends of the ground the highlight for me was after one of the goals a copper lost his helmet i remember someone tossing up in the air.........happy days.

Got to be Ben Abbey day for me as it was my first Southend away game. Travelling up on the tube as a 14 year old with my mate and thinking what a ****hole Leytonstone was. We got the win and had been giving Scott Houghton stick all game. He got substituted to massive cheers from the away end and he ran over to us and took his shirt off to a chorus of "You Fat *******". Then seeing some drunk Southend fans on the tube dancing to a ringtone on a Nokia 3210. Fast forward a few years and its probably me and my friends doing stupid stuff like that albeit with slightly more advanced phones!

Ha, that may well have been us! The game was close to my birthday so I got a load of non-Southend mates to come along too; they had a fantastic time and we all had plenty to drink. I certainly remember us sharing a KFC bucket on the tube which was a bit anti-social.

That day had started with me getting a cheque for £320 from the taxman and ended with me chatting to some Somalian bloke in Shepherd's Bush who claimed he was on the run for a murder he had committed back home. One of my all time favourite days as a Southend fan.

So many mixed emotions there - losing to an own goal then the following season losing to two own goals was bad, the season they were doing their ground up so half the Southend fans were in the home end behind the goal hoping for 0-0 so as to keep our cover and seeing a 2-2 finish (they sell pitchers of beer in the home end bar too - that doesn't help) then the Abbey out double was glorious (I made work colleagues go and remember one from Oxford getting caught up in the moment singing 'Southend till I die'), and couple of years ago a Peter Clarke beauty but the ref insisting on making sure they got a point

SUFC 5 Orient 1 - Took my Father-in-law (an avid Orient supporter) and had bragging rights for many years after!

Alan Little's first game in charge in 98/99 season at Birdbrain Rd.

O's going for promotion, us battling relegation.

On the way to the game some Orient supporting mates of mine we joking how much they were going to stuff us, me & Angell Delight said we'd be delighted if we could scrape a draw.

How fantastic it was to take all 3pts.

Neil Campbell looked like a world beater rather than a panel beater for just one day.

Mel Capleton produced some top save.

Even Capt Coley got on the scoresheet.

Happy days.

I think we need to accept that they're a bigger club than us now though

No contest.

Southend 5 Orient 1 - Richard Cadette scoring 4 against his former club. Brilliant.

I agree there is no contest with this question..... Richard Cadette installed himself as a legend from that day on and his performance especially against the club that he'd just left was awesome...

As for Abbey & Campbell they are seen as the legends that Cadette became. He'll be remembered more than for just one match....:Goal:

Definitely Barney's hatrick 4.9.09 - great Friday night at the Hall.

The penalty that he had to retake ......

+1 For me mate....had a cheeky £5 on Southend 3-0 that night ;-)

Yes that was a great day we went up in a open top bus went all around London before the game then on the way back we had a barney with some Orient fans in a pub near the ground.

The Abbey game probably just tops that they were unbeaten at home all season and we had so many fans there they had to move their fans out of their own home end to get us all in. Also before the game 4 of went ahead from a group of 20 into one of their lads pubs they saw us and it looked set to go off then the remainder of our lads walked in and the Orient lads faces were a picture. Thankfully the barstaff knewwhat could happen and opened up the back bar just for us complete with bar staff to prevent any trouble. The perfect treble that day: took over their pub, their ground and we won

in my time when i followed southend fromm 1970- 1981 until i moved to scotland Orient were never deemed to be a rival, I cannot recall us playing them although there may have been a league cup game. Orient were just never mentioned it was mainly Millwall, Col u , Gillingham, West ham and Lincoln later on.

We do, however, have something to be grateful to Orient for. If it wasn't for them we would never have played at Wembley. IIRC we played them there in a league game in the 1920's or 1930's. They were using Wembley whilst some work was being done on their ground...

a tough one....but the Barney hat trick on a cracking Friday night just shades it for me over that cold January at Brisbane Road when we let the Abbey out..
