Your best album?

Winkle

Manager
In my car yesterday I leaned over to change the cd and was thinking.... what would be my best album of all time? Now, I no, this is a hard one but I narrowed it down into three categories.

(1) Age of the band/artist (60/70/80/90/20??) should not matter.

(2) Did I listen to all the tracks on the album or just a few songs!

(3) Did the album/artist influence me (dodgy haircut, staypress trousers, whistle round the kneck..you no the thing).

This is my personal choice ( not most peoples cup of tea but...) I narrowed it down to three so here it goes.

(1) The Specials (more specials) brilliant time and brilliant memories.

(2) TheThe (infected) most underated Album ever. Matt Johnson my favorite song writer of all time, timeless.

(3) Oasis (whats the story) morning glory, found it very hard to split this album and (Definatly maybe) but W.T.S wins as I play it the most.

So come on then.. what are yours! It doesnt matter how old or new it is as everyones taste is different.....you decide!!!!

I was at my Mum's the other week and rifling through some stuff in my old room, found a 'top ten albums' list that I jotted down way back in December 1997. My current list would be pretty different to this (that's for another post), but I reckon this list doesn't stand up too badly given that I was only 18 at the time:

Angel Dust - Faith No More
Definitely Maybe - Oasis
Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers
New Adventures in Hi-Fi - REM
Automatic for the People - REM
The Queen is Dead - The Smiths
I Should Coco - Supergrass
Stanley Road - Paul Weller
Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy - The Refreshments
It's a Shame About Ray - Lemonheads

Radiohead - OK Computer
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Modest Mouse - Moon & Antartica OR We were dead..

My current top three would be:

The Smiths - The Smiths
The Decline of British Sea Power - British Sea Power
Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder

Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Stereophonics - Word gets around
Pearl jam - Greatest hits
The Black Keys - Thickfreakness
The Kinks - Greatest hits

That'll ding-dang-doo for me!

The problem with this type of thread is that favourites tend to vary with mood, plus if you are an ancient old git like me memory, so here goes, and in no particular order.

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Transformer - Lou Reed
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Sticky Fingers - Rolling Stones
Live at Leeds - The Who
Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin

no particular order, but probably something like this;
1.The Smiths - The queen is dead.
2.The Jam - Sound affects
3. Marvin Gaye - Whats going on

Top of my head:

Urban Hymns - The Verve
Rockin' The Suburbs - Ben Folds.
Dubnobasswithmyheadman - Underworld.
The Jam - Greatest Hits (if they're allowed ;oD)

i love ben folds, but rocking the suburbs is miles worse than all the BF5 stuff

other choices are spot on, urban hymns is an amazing album

To be honest Rockin' The Suburbs is what turned me onto Ben Folds. I didn't really know much Ben Folds 5 stuff before (only the obvious tracks) so that's why I chose it.

Arrgh: How could I forget: The Stone Roses debut? Nirvana - Nevermind....

Fall Out Boy - Infinity On High

Panic at the disco - Fever you can sweat out

Incubus - Make Yourself

eek! you should check out some old school 'emo' stuff like Fugazi and Desperacidos (the old punk band of the guy from Bright Eyes)

saying that I don't mind a bit of Coheed and also Billy Talent

My three albums that I have fallen in love with over time are

* Common - Be
* Roni Size - New forms
* Armand Van Helden - A Mix Odesey

Common I think it a really good album about morals and how to push on in life, Roni Size New Forms got me though the most boring week of my life when I went to India with work and Armand Van Heldens a mix odesey gives me inspiartion to go out looking for loose women every weekend.
