Echo News York City Supporters' Trust hold collection to help Southend United

A friend sent me a link to the Brentford fans forum yesterday where this was a topic. Had a look today and couldn’t find it… just a new thread with a guy saying he’d followed the Bees v Southend for a match and was hospitalised for a week after being stabbed in the stomach with a broken bottle outside the Railway. Sentiment seemed to turn against us a bit then 😯

Yes, we don't have the greatest of reputations because of a few very nasty incidents involving our fans. But on the other hand we have a large and good humoured away following that wins praise from our opponents week after week. Southampton fans still mention our great fans at our last Championahip match at St Mary's, for example.

A few idiots spoil it for the vast majority. 'twas ever thus.

We'll they don't like us do they, we have played them the most times
Their fans were not very nice in the seventys

This is Claire, daughter of our very own Alan Moody our record apps holder (507 apps 1972-84), proudly wearing an old SUFC shirt, helping the good folk of the York City Supporters Trust in the bucket collection this eve during the York v Doncaster Rovers friendly for the Shrimpers Trust Hardship Appeal for SUFC staff.
Alan was the inspiration for us setting up SUEPA with the Shrimpers Trust Moody Blues campaign in the Autumn of 2017 and we have been in regular contact with Claire and Alan ever since, last meeting them both at York for our game there last season (when Kev led the team at the end of the match to pay an impromptu on-the-pitch tribute to Alan).
The bond between our former players, their families and the club/fans (which SUEPA, the worlds largest former players group, looks to bring together), lasts for ever. We must not let this die.

Really is a shame that we are pretty much down to begging for cash, thanks to York City though a wonderful family club at the heart of thier community for stepping up and helping us in our hour of need.
If we ever get through this and manage to play York again then would be nice for the two sets of fans to get together before the match and we buy as many a beer as we can.
York you will always have a piece of my ❤️

How big is the away end at York City? However big, I think it'll sell out pretty fast providing we survive until then. Special away day in the making that.
Just under 900 mate (North Stand).

If the away side needs more tickets, then, in theory, they can have two / three sections in the West Stand nearest the North Stand.

Oldham, Chesterfield, Notts County and Wrexham all did this last season and brought about 1,500 fans.

It would be great to see Southend fans.

The whole football community needs to get behind you guys.

Went to the York game last season and definitely will be there again this year of we’re still here. Will be a fantastic day out regardless of the result!

So Matt Uggla said he was interested in buying us, then they looked at Yeovil and got York - but the process to buy SUFC was a nightmare (sounds familiar)

Yep, I was on the twitter feed when he came on as well. Basically, as you say, sounded that it was very difficult to deal with our end so they went elsewhere. Seemed a genuine comment from a good guy.
