71 points was enough for 7th place last season. That's 24 points from 13 games. More realistically 73 or 74 points will be needed. 27 points...... more than 2 points per game.

Yeovil Away 3 pts
Woking Home 3 pts
Altrincham Home 1 pt
FGR Away 0 pts
Eastleigh Away 0 pts
Boston Away 3 pts
Oldham Home 1 pt
Sutton Away 1 pt
Solihull Away 0 pts
Braintree Home 3 pts
Ebbsfleet Away 3 pts
Wealdstone Home 3 pts
Gateshead Away 0 pts

So 21 points.....

Last match G/head away is a hard one , G/head if they fimly entrenched in the playoffs maybe wont want to risk injuries to some off there main players, so maybe not field there strongest team who knows. Wouldnt be the first time or the last time a club looked to what they believe is the most important fixture , then again come the last match we may have been out off playoff calculations a long time before so wont matter .

Massive game today a must not lose for me a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world with two home games coming up but would love to do these lot can’t stand there manger and nouble

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher insists it will take more than 70 points to reach the National League play-offs this season.

The ninth placed Shrimpers - who currently have 47 points - head to Yeovil Town tomorrow trying to keep alive their slight hopes of a top seven finish.

And Maher is fully aware what it will take for Blues to be able to extend their season.

“There’s a number we’d like to get to,” said the Shrimpers boss.

“What it usually takes is above 70 points but it’s hard to look too far ahead because there are a lot of games in a short space of time.

“What we’ve got to do is focus solely on Saturday and see where that takes us.”

Blues are currently two places and five points below the play-off places with 12 games to go.

The Shrimpers are also unbeaten in their last four matches but Maher expects another stern test against a Yeovil side currently two points and two places below Southend.

“Yeovil had a difficult period but they’ve had a couple of very good results now,” said Maher.

“They’ve tweaked their system slightly to when we played them before but they still have a lot of the same players and the same threats.

“They’re really well coached and really well organised.

“They will be on a high after the last couple of results too so this will be another different and difficult challenge.”

The match is also the first of a busy March for Blues.

But Maher is confident his squad will be able to cope with the demanding schedule.

“I think we’ve got seven games this month so it’s going to test the squad but that’s what it’s there for,” said Maher.

“We’ve got new players bedding in and we’re getting stronger in terms of numbers and our depth.

“Hopefully that stands us in good stead for the run in and there are a lot of points to play for.

“We’ve got to pick up as many as we can and the squad is going to be tested this month.

“Everyone has to be ready to play.”

The Shrimpers have striker Josh Walker available again this weekend after he recovered from an illness but goalkeeper Collin Andeng Ndi (hamstring), defender Adam Crowther (knee) and midfielder Cav Miley (ankle) are all still sidelined.

SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Nick Hayes says he is running out of words to describe the in-form Gus Scott-Morriss.

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Nick Hayes says he is running out of words to describe the in-form Gus Scott-Morriss.

The Shrimpers right wing-back scored his 14th goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Tamworth.

And Hayes – who also played alongside Scott-Morriss at Hemel Hempstead – has been incredibly impressed by his team-mate.

“I’m running out of words to describe him now to be honest,” said Hayes.

“Goalscoring machine certainly wasn’t one way I thought I would be describing him but he’s got that knack or being in the right place at the right time and he shows composure too .

“That goal at the weekend is an unbelievable finish and the goalie has absolutely no chance with that.

“Even I didn’t think he would be taking it on first time from there but he’s such a good guy and he works really hard.

“He’s a massive part of our group and a massive part of how we play.

“But I’m seriously running out of ways to describe him now, he’s unbelievable.”

Blues head to Yeovil Town this weekend.

As mentioned earlier we struggle when we dont score first. Strangely one goal has been scored against us in each of the last 6 games, of which we have won just two

This suggests Yeovil will score but can we get TWO goals, ? Weve only achieved that 3 times in the last 14 games. Only 6 goals against in 6 games is not bad though

The key thing is we are currently the second best team in the league over 10 games, but somehow and for some reason I dont quite understand , it just doesnt feel like it? We should be brimming with confidence though

It depends on Kev.....
If the usual overcautious Kev has stressed to the players how dangerous 'mighty' Yeovil are we will be on the backfoot, obsessing with possession and not losing, we might scrape a scrappy 0-0.
However
If Kev flips it & believes in how good we know OUR team is, attack on the front foot and let the cider drinkers worry the hell how to cope with our dangerous players instead.
Our team is crying out to go 4-3-3 ;
....................Hayes...........
GSM.... Taylor...Goodliffe...Ralph
.........Husin...Morton...Parillon....
.....Bonne....Hopper........Walker

We will totally overpower the opposition, our midfield will have plenty of options to feed our strikers , forcing Yeovil deep therefore less for our defence to worry about. Southend win 3 nil.
