Question Would you play for Col Ewe?

I have just re listened to BBC Essex post match programme on BBC Sounds App.
New Year’s Day programme.
Jack Payne was interviewed by Neil Kelly.
It made me think, would I sign for Col Ewe after the only team in Essex!
My answer is No Way Pal! Could not bring myself to do it.
What do you think??

If you were an ambitious young footballer playing for a mid table NLS club and Col Ewe came knocking. In the absence of any other offers I can’t see that many wouldn’t go for that. Southend fan or not.

Darren Bent is a big gooner and played for Spurs…

Jack Payne after leaving us had one surprisingly good season In Huddersfield’s remarkable promotion year. They quite soon got rid of him,as did most of the decent clubs he got moved on to.You could see he had some ability and why he might appear to be a worthwhile acquisition but also why he has gradually descended to the lowest of the low : MK Franchise and now the Sheep !
And NO,I’d need to avoid Neal Kelly and prefer playing elsewhere !

There are so many examples of players playing for teams you wouldn't expect them to. For example, IIRC Robbie Fowler is a lifelong Everton fan. If people like that can do it, then why not? After all, it's a living, and if that's the only way to stay employed then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I can't believe that anyone with aspirations to be a professional footballer would turn down a club just because it was the big rival of the club they support. If they offered the best all round deal in terms of money, location, length of contract etc., 99.99% of people would take it. Its a job at the end of the day. Doesn't stop you supporting your usual club. And it must be happening all over the country all the time.

Denis Law was the king of Old Trafford but it didn't stop him joining Man City and scoring the goal that got Man United relegated.
