Worst Solo!

RobM.

Manager
Worst guitar solo - Richie Blackmore on 'Speed King'
The prune that plays keyboard solo on 'I want to break free'.

Any offers for worse?

Hotel California by the Eagles is my most hated song ever so I'll go for that.

I can't say I like anything by Eric Clapton either.

The Ramones, take your pick. I think they had the first drum roll on the 2nd album and the first guitar solo on the third, it was one note played fast, cant remember the song, but I love em.

I suppose that doesn't qualify for a worst if I love it but definatley the least technical.

The worst in my opinion therefore must go to Spinal Tap's interlude where Nigel does an interpretation of all the pentatonic scales using a violin bow, in the live show (Spinal tap returns) he throws balls at the strings I believe, I did hear an ethnic type lydian expression as one of the balls bounced but apart from that nothing could describe it except pretentious art w@nk. Though it was tongue in cheek I bet some posey arty band actually did that for real.

Over the top look at me award goes to, my pet hate, Yngwie Malmsteen, weak lyrics weak songs punctuated by OTT solo's. If Mozart where alive he'd vomit at Yngwie and play a Gibson Les Paul, on 11

Unquestionably, the "bee-in-a-beer-can" noise of Edwin Collins on "Never Met A Girl Like You Before"... one of the most irritating songs, and irritating guitar solos, of all time.

Surely Yngwie is more diddlywiddlydiddlydiddlydiddlydiddlyweeeeeeeeeeee

As she's a solo artist, does anything by Celine Dion count? Lousy bint.

Good call. "Slime" Dion is the musical equivalent of nails down a blackboard...

All guitar solos are the work of the fret-$%&*ery, prog-rock devil!

I pretty mch detest any terrible 'solo' by McFly. No talent whatsoever, they're just prepared to walk round with bad hair all day and sign autographs while acting as the record company's monkeys.

Got to love Slash's solo on Nvember rain. Say what you will about the wailing lyrics, the wailing guitar takes some beating.

I've always absolutely detested the work of Guns n Roses. Not entirely sure why but for this reason I'll nominate the horrendous guitar work in 'Live and let die'.

Way to murder a classic you bunch of spanners!!!!!!!!!

Because you are a man of exquisite taste - it's simple, really.

Find it hard to see why Guns 'n' Roses seem to get a lot of stick.

I can guarantee that having tried a wide variety of songs, the best two albums for getting in the zone for an exam are Smash by Offspring or Appetite for Destruction.

Lovely stuff.

Gotta agree with you there SITP. Can't go wrong with a bit of 'Paradise City' or 'Sweet Child O' Mine' IMO.

Eurgh. The only decent things about Guns N Roses are (a) Slash, a more than competent guitarist; and (b) the fact that they are no longer together.

They were at the tail end of mulleted 80s rock which, frankly, the likes of Def Leppard and Scorpions did better.

If you want some uplifting hard rock to get you in the zone, try AC/DC's Back in Black - a true rock classic. Alternatively, if you want angst, go for Axl's contemporaries, Nirvana.

Axl tried to glean from both styles, and ended up achieving neither. Dreadful stuff, I assure you.
