Worst footballing defeat.

The Business
Just talking to one of our packagers today and there 5 a side team who play in the Sutton League lost 30-1 last night.

I cant even compare on that front. As a kiddy we lost 12-0 away once in the cup and in my one and only apperance for the county side we lost 9-1 at Lincolnshire and that was only 9-1 as it got abandoned with 20 mins to go. I was centre back and had to mark Scott Huckerby who is Darren's brother.

Any of you boys able to beat 30-1 ..??

The school team I was in (4th year c1973) was appalling, the nearest we cam to winning was losing 7-2 and scoring 1st.
That season I can remember losing 18-0, 18-1 two 16-0 defeats and a couple of 14-0 's as well.

The highlight ?? was when Beauchamps included a 3rd year in their team against us........ a certain Paul Clark.........

Not sure if this actually counts as a defeat .
I used to play in the Thurrock sunday league, and more often than not was on the bench
Anyway our opponents manager informed us that they didn't have enough players one day, so rather than have a void game, me and another sub were quickly despatched to the opposing team without the ref knowing.
I ended up in goal and my new team lost about 17-4 I think it was.
I was almost lynched after the game by me new team'mates' but in all honesty I had been trying, I was just cack.
Not to mention the fact that even with two extra bods they had started the game with only 10 men.

Teams I played for were generally all quite. The only defeat that comes to mind as an embarassment was losing to Gt Wakering about by 5 or 6 goals. That was our first game of the season after our team had been taken to pieces by Southend, the Hamsters and East Anglia. Shrimperman had trials with Southend but didn't get in

The team quickly folded after that and we ended up playing in the B team.

Wasnt it something like a 17-1 loss against Prittlewell, couple seasons ago?!

And it was a friendly....
I was injured for that game...

Well I managed to kick him once...........

but he got me back with interest.......

He was a class act.

Mayflower had a lad playing for them who was also on Southend United books at the time. George Measures , IIRC Southend off loaded him when he got sent off in a youth tournament in Holland , i think he headbutted someone...

Right here goes. Years ago I used to be player manager of one of the Hawthorns FC teams and jointly coached the U10s who were struggling badly. As their games tended to kick off in the afternoons I suggested they came down and watched us play football to pick up some tips.

Now we weren't a brilliant team but we weren't the world's worst. As luck would have it we were playing that Sunday against a Basildon team (it may have been Basildon Hospital, Boys, United, my memory fades). This team, unbeknown to me, were a little bit tasty and far above anything in our league, let alone our division. Think Man Utd vs Great Wakering Rovers and you'll get the gulf in class. The kids I could handle............. but their parents !!!!

Memory is a bad thing because I cannot remember what the final score was. Suffice to say it was in the mid-30s and I can't think of a more embarrassing moment in my entire career.

Having just depressed myself I'll now allow myself the luxury of thinking of a good season. Having not scored in something like 6 seasons my SZFC colleagues will find this hard to believe but Gainsborough Boys U13B runners up, 36 goals as a fast, miniscule centre forward and I wasn't top scorer that season. I still cherish the moments when Frankie Banks presented me with the league trophy and, on our own club night, clubman of the season.

I played for Hawkwell C once, and our team was shocking.

Somehow (probably due to us being in the bottom league) we won 12-1 i think it was. Next week we played the same team in the cup, lost 8-2. I didn't understand it, but later found out that they just brought some of their A team players down.

Biggest defeat I ever suffered playing football was my Sunday League side losing 9-1. It was embarrassing, and not really my fault as I came off injured after 15 minutes when we were drawing 1-1....

Didn't help when the 'keeper was sent off a couple of minutes later and we only had some small kid as the other sub...

14-0 against Writtle whos players were more or less Chelmsford City's reserves. I was in goal but don't want to talk about it.

15-3 while standing in for a pub team again in goal. Again, im not talking about it.

I am not the keeper I thought I was.

**Cracks open another can trying to forget**

i remember years ago Benfleet Rangers 'b' lost 45-0.

I refereed the 'A' team and it was about 18-0. They got expelled from the league because their manager tried to bribe the referee. Supposedly to keep the score to single figures!

45-0?! That's worse than Western Samoa!

Cant remember too many heavy defeats in my football career, the worst being about 6-0 or 7-0 i'm ashamed to say...

The best win I ever have been involved in was a 31-0 thrashing of Whittingham Panthers in which I scored 9 myself!... a club record which still stands I believe!..
