Worst ever miss

Thought I would never forget the guys name .. but have. Still it was at West Ham, an F.A Cup replay I think after a 0 - 0 draw at Roots Hall. We were winning 1 - 0 and they were wilting when a chance rebound saw the ball come to this players feet, 6 feet out from a completely open goal - a simple tap in. We were behind the goal and already celebrating when for some reason the idiot lashed at the ball putting it over the bar ! West Ham equalised (Billy Bond) a short time later and the game ended 1 - 1. They won the right (toss of the coin) for the 2nd replay (yeah we had multiple replays in those days) to be played at Upton Park again and I think we lost 2 - 0. Name began with a 'P' I think !

I think dear old DROOOWW probably gets the vote for most consistant offender from under 6 yards.

Drewe in the league cup against the hamsters when we lost 2-0 all ad to do was head straight and he still cocked it up.

Benji at Everton but it was also a world class save by southall

Ricky Otto's header in the English Final of the Anglo Italian Cup up at Notts ****y.

Devastating at the time and the penalties weren't much easier on the eye

Against Scarborough I think you will find.....

Worst miss I can remember was probably Derek Payne v Forest live on telly. Parkers was disappointing but he still had to beat Englands number one keeper at the time so not a tap in. I remember the West Ham match and recall us absolutely thrashing them without scoring, they then came out for extra time and kicked us off of the park! Cannot remember any particular miss though. I do remember Stuart Parker in one match, possibly Brizzle Rovers away, he was a mile offside but the flag stayed down, the keeper just stood there with his hand in the air looking at the linesman, Parker just had to kick the ball into the net from 10 yards. Instead, he tried to run it in and the keeper came to his senses and smothered the ball.

I've never seen a replay of it so I don't know how much of a chance it was, but Fred's miss towards the end of the Swansea home match last season stands out. It looked like a simple header from two yards out.

have to agree with the gutts one from leicester, it really wasnt that hard to hit the target.... worse missed cross must go to benno sometime last season at home, made a brilliant run and skinned three players, got to the byline and sliced his cross straigh t over the south stand!! typical benno!

Ball comes rolling across the box at a snails pace, three yards out, if he connects it goes in simple as that....he swiped at it, went through his legs and there went our chance of a Wembley appearance.

Aaaarrrrggggghhh.

I'll second that!

Was the worst miss ever, but the final was at the mil stad not at wembley.

I remember one, in front of the South stand.

Tony Richards missed from abut 2 yards out. cannot remember the game or even year.

Must be one of the worst players to ever wear a Southend shirt however.
