I remember leaving at 5-0, putting the car radio on and then being grateful for small mercies.Just about to say the palace 8-0, tried to get out but they were going in quicker than I could get to exit
And the 1 was an own goal IIRC. I know I was there but have tried to expunge the memory. This does not mean I think we will lose Sunday, but what's the worst defeat as a Southend fan you have ever experienced ?
Mine has to be in 1987 away to Gillingham where we lost 8-1, to top it off i got spat on through the metal fence![]()

That would be mine too. Both ian Wright and Mark Bright got hattricks, IIRC.8-0 away at Palace in the league cup. I think Ian Wright got a hatrick and I think Mark Bright got a couple too.
The 2nd leg we lost at 2-1 at roots hall.
Yep, that was our first defeat of the season having just been promoted from Div 4.and was on the Saturday before the 8-0 thumping at Palace. We had been top of the table and I thought then that our bubble had been burst.I remember losing 4-0 at stoke... having gone into the match unbeaten that season ...1990 or 91?
Made worse because the week before we'd beaten Blackburn at RH with a superb performance and we all thought we were going up.Rotherham 5-0 away was pretty awful a few years back when Kiefer Moore tore us apart!
That was my heaviest defeat as well. Believe both Wright and Bright got hattricks.8-0 away at Palace in the league cup. I think Ian Wright got a hatrick and I think Mark Bright got a couple too.
The 2nd leg we lost at 2-1 at roots hall.
2nd coldest I have ever been at a football match.2-1 away at MK dons the year we won league one. It was soooooo cold.
Yeah I agree with you that performance at Oxford in 96 was worse than the heavy defeats at Sunderland/Gillingham/Derby/Crystal Palace.Heaviest defeat was 1-7 v Donny.
Worst away performance was a 5-0 v Oxford at the old Manor Ground when they still had the fences up and fans were trying to climb them to get at the players. I've never seen us so angry.
Matching 0-1 home FA Cup defeats to Donny (at the time bottom of the conference / NL) and Kingstonian.
2-1 away at MK dons the year we won league one. It was soooooo cold.
Going to morecambe and not getting the result..
