Some people are looking at the wrong "rumour"

04 Apr 2013 10:14:54
The Football League are investigating a southern-based League Two club with regard to financial irregularities. The investigation is expected to conclued sometime in May. If, and it seems very likely they will, found guilty this club will be relegated three divisions, as per league ruiles. As a result this club will commence next season in the Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division.

As we know that site is a pile of **** and any one of us could stick a load of crap on there. So nowt to worry about I am sure.

Add to that those replying to the thread on there seem to imply it is Oxford - so probably a Swindon fan has put it on there.

Out of interest - would RM be entitled to dip into the Wembley cash if it goes through the Club's accounts or does this have to go straight off to the FL for distribution at a later date?

He is not entitled to dip into no, it's not his money.

It is meant to go into a pool account where the FL take a cut and the rest gets divvied up equally between us and Crewe after costs.

Whether he has "dipped" into it is a question for him....

IF he has (which I sincerely hope is not the case) then that is like an ant playing chicken with a jumbo jet.

Im sure money comes in and they have to pay money out at a certain point.

I doubt they have to keep it ring fenced, I cant even imagine how that would be possible from a technical perspective. If I go in buy a ticket and £100 in foam hands are they really going to be putting £36 in one pile, the £1 fee in another and the merchandise in another ? Surely it all goes in our account and when we confirm we have sold X amounts of seats the FA say thats X amount of spondoolies you owe us.

As long as the money gets paid to the FA I really dont see that it matters if we spend any of it in the meantime as long as it gets paid on the deadline. Question is will it ? Seeing as we have made a fortune from this game including merchandise surely we are fairly flush cash wise at the moment.

At the risk of appearing daft... since when has there been a standard 3 division demotion for financial irregularities? I seem to remember Chesterfield, Swindon and Luton all guilty of financial irregularities and they had points deductions which either meant no promotion or relegation 1 division.

It's more to do with going into administration than anything else.

If League Two clubs in administration are demoted, the Conference will only accept them if the terms of their CVA include a guarantee that 100% of all debts be paid to creditors within 3 years.

If no such guarantee is forthcoming the Conference won't accept them in any of their divisions. It is therefore, in effect, a 3 division demotion.

Even with 10 points off we and Oxford still sit above relegation. Just.

James is just commenting on events from the past week.

I'm sure we all agree that it has been another sorry episode of many.

He is not saying we are doomed or hinting he knows something we don't.

What is the problem?

Smiffy I agree with a lot of what you say and you do sum up things well. Maybe I'm naive to this possible `irrelevent` comment but if james was commenting on the Paul Sturrock saga then why would he wait 4 days to just say " martin out"?. Ron's statement was released on the 25th and James commented on the 29th. Without being labelled a doom mongerer I do feel in my honest opinion he's picked up on more than meets the eye. Things shared by Chris and Bernie.

Appologies. It appears I was indeed looking at another article. Just shows how many of these spurious articles are entered onto this website.

Anyway, one sleep to wembley and I don't give a monkeys at the moment about anything else.

Forgotten the old Christmas eve feeling as a kid until now. It's like the best present of all is waiting for me from Santa in the morning.

Financial irregularities doesn't generally mean late payment of the tax man or the players etc, it means underhand payments (cash in brown paper bags etc, ala Cloughie) or other underhand sculduggary. On that basis it's no more likely to be us than any other southern L2 club (if there was any truth in the rumours anyway). I can think of 9 possible candidates off the top of my head. Probably all b****cks anyway.

Rather less likely in fact. When Ron actually gets round to paying someone, he likes to let us all know about it.

Can't really see what Bernie has to gain by telling untruths. We all know the state of the Club and if it goes under ,we wouldn't be too surprised, would we ? Unfortunately,he's probably right :-(

Kind of been contradictory here. Bernie, Chris and James Colasanti I feel almost certainly know whats what but can't do anything about publically till it becomes more apparent in the public domain. Till then they'll be betraying valuable confidantes.

Unfortunately and without being a doom monger I am starting to think the bottom league as far as we are concerned is the Essex Senior League. I have no inside information on what Bernie has alluded to, but Ron's actions this week are that of a man right on the edge of sanity.

The bizarre decision to sack Sturrock but keep him on for the JPT final. That statement (despite the ridiculous grammar and erroneous bullet points, I am told on very good authority he refused to let anyone change it), ringing up Chris Phillips to tell him to **** off. Not clarifying the manager situation and appearing to let both bosses believe they will be in charge on April 7.

The man has lost it. The big question is, why has he lost it? On the pitch, things are not terrible. The form has been lousy and we're down to 9th. That's a shame but we've been in far lower positions in our recent history. We're in a cup final. Off the pitch though, that's clearly a different story.

This is just my opinion but I think things will come to a head this summer and something Very Bad will happen.

A decent, reasoned reply jai.

I know there could be a chance he is "fiddling while Rome burns", but surely if things were as imminently bad as Bernie suggests the Ron wouldn't incur the expense of appointing a new manager now? Any business in trouble tries to cut its costs, the cheaper option would be for Sturrock to see out his contract and then appoint Coughlan with Harris as his assistant.

However I accept that Ron's actions don't always make a lot of sense to those of us outside the club!

To be fair to Chris P he was the one who first reported the seriousness of the financial situation towards the end of 2009 and if my memory serves me correctly he was accused of stirring there and then. What he did say at that point was to unravel as the truth at a later date. Personally I would say Chris and Bernie and James for that matter wouldn't hint at such things if they knew damn well there was nothing in it. As leeblue rightly says it points to their idea of readying fans for the worst. I shall personally have a word with a local councillor I know off at ther start of the week . I don't expect a thorough answer but just to get the gisk, maybe, of which way the wind is blowing regarding Wednesday's decision.
