If going M25 South clockwise, I would check for M25 updates. Last week there were a few lane closures, and many stretches of traffic cones and roadworks, reducing speed to 50mph and 40mph, and long traffic jams. It may or may not have improved by Tuesday, but worth checking just in case.

M25 clockwise can be bad. Around Clackett lane services there is a long stretch of 50 mph roadworks. Junction 10 A3 Guildford/ Woking massive roadworks till next summer and slow at times. I live locally and have to do this stretch to visit elderly relative in Rayleigh and have been caught out frequently. Consider M25 anticlockwise and miss all this and Dartford and exit Junction 11 follow signs to Woking. Or allow extra time.
See you all there , can’t wait

I said earlier in this thread that the 3 points are the important outcome for this game. That being so, I don't much mind what our set up is as long as we do the business. I suspect that we will start with a tight defensive approach and then see how it develops. In their faces and fast forward passing football should be the order of the day for Woking.

I don't believe the Amigos will change the ethos and team set up on the basis of 40 minutes of good play. I suspect they will be looking to see what can be done to set the current squad up to play in a similar pattern with 3 across the back AND 3 central midfielders and BIm as the No9 "spearhead".
The selection for the other 3 outfield slots is Gus or Wind? (right side)
Walker or Bridge or Noor? (left side)
Bonne or Moncur? (no10 role)
Danny W to replace Bim sometime after an hour plus?
KAF and Woody as wildcards subs?

Is it only Joe Gubbins injured, maybe JB too?
Given 352 running through the club it difficult to see it being jettisoned. The nearest we will get to it will be getting closer to 343 by playing a proper number 10 ( so the 3 in CM an attacking number 20 with a LCM and RCM. Moncur would work in a 10 role, could one of the front three second half Sat? Probably have to be Bonne? Don’t know.
Anyway seems to me if 352 continues we need a creative number 10 he will deliver goals and assists, get in the box etc.,

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher hopes Macauley Bonne’s showing against Forest Green Rovers can be the sign of things to come.

Bonne has struggled to make a consistent impact for the Shrimpers since signing in September.

But the experienced forward impressed off the bench during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Forest Green Rovers.

And Maher feels Bonne’s experience makes him an impact player for Blues despite him not having scored in 15 appearances.

“There are games this year where he’s played ever so well,” said Maher.

“When he first came in he had chances and it would’ve been nice for one of them to go in for his own benefit but I remember his performance at Solihull and what he did there.

“There are plenty of others where he’s really made a difference with his nous and knowledge as well.

“His knowledge helps and it’s probably something we haven’t got a lot of.

“Bim (Pepple) is a young lad and Danny (Waldron) has come from the level below so they’re still learning.”

And Maher feels Bonne’s experience is even more important due to the players who left the club at the end of last season.

“We’ve lost a bit of experience from last year so Macca brings that but it would be nice for him to start bringing goals as well,” said Maher.

“We obviously want all our forwards to be scoring.”

After impressing off the bench on Saturday, Bonne will be pushing to start against his former side Woking this evening.

Maher also has goalkeeper Zach Jeacock and Jack Bridge available despite them suffering with an illness in the past week but defender Joe Gubbins is likely to miss out with an Achilles injury.

"He's getting nearer and he's building up the work within his legs to push him and see where he's at," said Maher.

"Hopefully he'll get closer and closer as the days and weeks go by."

So having read this thread it appears that people have had the epiphany that we can play other formations instead of 3-5-2. What's happened to those of you who have spent the last few weeks swearing blind that it couldn't be done?

Next thing is how the players we have could fit into a different system.
  • Crowther and Gubbins (when fit) are potentially the best centre half pairing.
  • Taylor could easily play at right back (he's better defensively than GSM) or a holding role in midfield. Wind could also play right back.
  • That would release GSM to play on the right side of a midfield 3 which might suit him really well given that he's better going forwards than he is defensively.
  • That would mean he's competing with Coker who's arguably one of our most effective players. A nice problem to have.
  • Wood might get more minutes if we're playing 3 up front because right of a 3 is probably his best position - particularly off the bench.
  • If we could end Moncur's loan, that might free up a space for a left footed, left sided forward, which would add some much needed balance in the final third. Or alternatively we could just pay for an extra player if we're now back in the mindset of it being the chairman's job to fund our excesses.
We have a really decent squad. We just haven't been using it correctly.

Get you with your radical (albeit sensible forward thinking) :Highfive:

@ShrimperStats how do Woking tend to line-up?
They went with a 3-4-3 vs. Barnet on Saturday, but I think they frequently switch formations. From what I’ve seen, they press aggressively from the front. I think winning the duels tonight will be vital as we may not be able to reliably play through their pressure.

Majority of this was in response to people claiming we must play 4-4-2. Which we still aren’t using, and still shouldn’t. I don’t think anybody has claimed that we couldn’t use any other formation at all.
