Wimpy

There's one at a services on the M1, amount of times I have passed it on the way back to Stockport from Roots Hall!

The one in Pitsea was taken over by a chavvy clothes shop years ago and when I used to live in East London, the one in Ilford was taken over by Burger King.

Basildon Bus Station Wimpy is still going strong tho.

And the M6 Toll... which was a far pikey-er service station than I had been expecting; thought the toll booths would have kept the chavs out.

Apparently not.

Wimpy is is a ritual for me and my most significant other on Saturday home match days. Double egg and chips and a filter coffee or in the summer a lime or strawberry milkshake.

Is your significant other Alberto the frog from Bod?

Inspired by this thread, I went to Wimpy in Barking High Street last night.

Excellent quarter pound cheeseburger and chips, my only complaint would be the chocolate milkshake had too much undissolved sugar in it.

Couldn't see bender in the bun on the menu though...

Thank you for resurrecting this thread Nangyman.

Wimpy is too important for us to forget.

By the way, where does Mr Wimpy work nowadays? Haven't seen him for years.

Do you mean Mr Whippy? Don't remember Mr Wimpy.

While we're on the subject of great British institutions isn't it sad to see the last Routemaster bus service is axed today.

A tragedy for busspotters across the world.

I remember when Southend Transport bought a load and painted them blue...we got them to school...

You don't remember Mr Wimpy?

Often seen in Southend High St in the 80s handing out fliers:

Thought Mr. Wimpy was last seen working as a Beefeater at the Tower of London...

I had that game for the Speccy. Probably have a pc version on an emulator disc somewhere.
I will not frequent Wimpy any more as they are smoke havens. They seem to be the 'smokers last stand' food place and I will not expose my kids to that.

I recall the one down the high street. became Rumbelows then Granada TV, cant remeber what it is now. Y'know opposite the Midland bank, which became a cheap curtain shop....

Anyone recall the brief time Wendy's had an outlet in the High Street ?

One of the Granada shops has become Starbucks or some such. I remember the Wendy's they also had one in Basildon.

Have to say Wendy's was miles better than BK or Mac.

I was in Lakeside yesterday and walked past the Wimpy there, which created an urge for one, especially after this thread jogged my memory and I regret that I didn't have one now!

Go there before it's too late! It may close down soon and you won't be able to live with yourself if you don't visit.

The fact that I didn't get a chance to have one last Bender in the Rayners Lane branch haunts me to this day.

The only wendy's I have been in over here was where BK is on liverpool st and it was rank!
Wendis in the states are good though went to them a couple of times while on hols a couple of years ago
