Question Will somebody come in for Barnard before Christmas?

The only point that needs to be made is that there is no point in Barney signing a new contract yet, unfortunately. He's in the shop window and fair play to him. We can't sign quality players at the moment and this season has mid table written all over it. I'd love for us to show some ambition and if thr stadium was further down thr line then we might have been able to persuade barney to sign a new contract. However he needs to be pushing himself and whilst he's not thr finished article, he has the desire and knack
of scoring goals

Well 500 k bags him a 50 grand pay off in his pocket , yes he's a local lad and yes he likes it at Southend but money and ambition talk and as with every other player at this level , if a CCC team come a knocking , they are gone , its a s simple as that and who can blame them .

Personally i can see a Charlton or Norwich coming in for him and he will defo at least double his wages , what would you do in his shoes ...honestly ???

As the transfer window doesn't open till Jan, I am going to say no.

Not necessarily, don't forget teams sometimes sign players on "emergency loans" with a view to the permanent deal being progressed come January 1st. Highest profile deal like this I can remember was Nathan Tyson's move to Forest a few years back.

I'd guarantee anybody comes in with a £300k + bid then Uncle Ron will accept in a second.

Well, let's hope not this week eh? Or you won't get the chance to see the new improved Barney!

What club is going to pay us £500k for a bloke who they can sign for free in 8 months?

Well £1 million of the Fred cash paid Peter clarkes wages whilst he was here ! The other half mill was spent on Revell, Walker, etc etc
As for the £350k we got for Bailey, well i think that it probably went on the day to day running of the club, it might have even been used to pay Dorian Dervitte's wages last year ?? Clutching at straws i know but then more likely than the conspiracy theorists ideas......

In that case, just out of curiosity, where did the ticket money go? Or the merchandise money? I thought these things went towards the running of a club.

I mean, afterall, there are countless clubs in the football league, that haven't sold players for big money, yet they're still surviving...

Shame Peter Kenyon has left Chelsea. If he was still there we could have mugged them in to giving us £2m plus Sawyer and Drogba, whilst agreeing to still play the latter's wages.

Rumour has it that now Man City are to offload Robinho in January, Mark Hughes will splash the cash on Barnard as his replacement. Hughes believes that Barnard's goal poaching will be the perfect foil for the pace of Bellamy, the work ethic of Tevez and the gangly african nutcase Adabayor.

City quite cleary are not put off of paying money for someone they could get for free in 6 months after spending £18m on Nigel De Jong.

In response to the original question

No, nobody will come in for Barnard before xmas, the trasnfer window is closed and were not going to let him out on an emergency loan whilst our squad is tiny and we can barely put a team out let alone a full subs bench

Sorry but one of the most ridiculous questions posted on here in ages!

Not even if say somebody structured a deal so it was £100k as the "loan fee" with a further £200k to be paid once the permanent deal went through early January?

Agree with DtS, why would anyone want to pay for Barney in January when they could potentially get him for nothing in the summer? The 'big' league one clubs Leeds, Charlton, Norwich, Saints all have enough firepower to get out of this division so if interested could easily wait until the summer.

Also agree we're highly unlikely to let him out on loan either with our paper thin squad. Personally I would only consider selling him in January if we got £400k+ and could guarantee getting another goalscorer in (plus a winger and CB), but as that's unlikely I'd rather we kept him til the end of the season scoring goals to keep us in this division and let him go in the summer.

You never know though, maybe he'll sign a new contract.....:D

EDIT: Also, typical Zone isn't it, we can't just enjoy our fantastic luck to have a great goalscorer, we have to find a reason to panic. sigh.

As a Club at this level, whenever someone does well he will always move on. Its the nature of the beast for Clubs like us. The likes of Eastwood, Gower, Bailey, JCR and Clarkey have all moved on in recent seasons to something bigger and better than us and that will always be the case unless we have the money, like Huddersfield, which means they don't have to sell.

Barnard will be on a few Club's radars with 12 goals in all competitions, and being the top league scored in the top four divisions. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few bids for him in the January window, I just hope RM, Tilly and Brush, have got him to sign a new 3 year deal.

Don't forget, Barnard has a terrible injury record, never been prolific at any of the Clubs he went on loan to, and lives locally and wants to play for us.

For once the club are in a pickle and its not Rons fault,Dilemma being the club could take cash now for Barney or lose him for nothing in the summer,Any serious offer above 200k and the club will be forced to take the money.
