Will King Kev be Recalled From Gills for Play Offs?

SUFC Forever

Manager
Obviously now that Gillingham's fairly disasterous season is almost over and could end on Saturday with them relegated to what I still feel is actually Division 4, King Kev will have finished his time there and will therefore I suppose be available for our subsequent play off matches.

He has not played much since and been sent off in his short time there (being suspended) so not too sure about his form but with his experience even on the bench he must surely have to be considered for the squad for Southend's remaining games this season if he does return or do you feel that having effectively been shown that his time is virtually up here now that we will stick with what we have and Kev will be freed at the end of the season having now played his last game in an SUFC shirt?

i'm sure someone else can do the stats but our unbeaten run pretty much started when maher was axed from the squad.

personally i don't want him near the 1st team until the playoffs are over, the current team of players have been the ones who've turned us from a top half team to almost automatic qualifiers.

maher hasn't been involved, and so unless bailey, macca, moussa and grant all get injured... shouldn't be involved in our playoff campaign

From the point of view that he is still under contract at Roots Hall then the answer is yes. Whether Tilly will play him is another question.

If all the rumours are to be believed then part of the reason Maher was farmed out was due to behind the scenes unpleasantries involving him & others.

If this is the case don't see why Tilson would drag all this up again now by calling him back when everyone needs to be focused.

From a personal point of view I would love to at least have him on the bench as I think he's 1st choice replacement (now the loanees are going back) if Bailey or Macca get a knock.

I think the January signings are far more influential on our upturn in form than Maher leaving....

I dont think Maher will play in a Southend shirt again other than his testimonial, and to be honest we dont need him.

I'm baffled by this whole loan thing.

Grant was signed on the same day as Mulgrew. Therefore, how come Mulgrew can stay on for the Play Offs (or so we believe because Grant going back wasn't made public until Friday), yet Grant has already gone back?

Maher will obviously be back at the club for the Play Offs as per Hooper and Masters, but I'd be very surprised if he's involved by choice. Although with the squad getting a bit thin yet again, he might be a surprise unused sub.

It's all to do with if loans are deemed to be emergency or not.
I am guessing Mulgrew isn't an emergency loan and as he signed 31 January (e.g. within the transfer window), he's therefore eligible for whole of the playoff campaign as Wolves have agreed to it.

Think there's a ruling on how many emergency and fixed loans you can have in a season too, but nobody seems to know the exact limits.

Grant was also signed within the transfer window though, which is why I don't understand. :)

I still to this day do not know the reasons why Kev was shown the door at Roots Hall. Loads of rumours but nothing really ever confirmed.

Personally (and putting anything else aside) I feel if he is now a disruptive influence then the free should be granted ASAP and he thanked for the fantastic service he has given the club for so many years. However, if things can be resolved, what better way for Kev to perhaps sign off his career with us by coming back and playing a part in getting Southend promoted at the end of the season?

Obviously he is coming to the end of his time here with the emergence of Bailey, Macca, Moose etc. but his experience would be invaluable now and with the squad loanees going back, he must surely be good enough still to at least sit on the bench and perhaps come on later in the game to play a part?

That said, if his heart is not in it anymore or the issues simply cannot be resolved, it would be best for all concerned that Kev is now consigned to history and his contract terminated for the good of all concerned.

No sentiment in business or football is there?

Yes, but he was signed as an emergency loan (I guess to satisfy the quota of which types of loan you are allowed over each season).

So, in the transfer windows you can sign players both for set time periods and on emergency 93-day loans. Outwith of the windows you can only use the second option.

maher was in this weeks sun league team of the weekend, with macc and bailey fighting we might as well put a third in the ring. we can have a royal rumble
