Wiggys ratings today!

wiggy

Darryl's Love Child
Flavs 9 as long as he is in goal we could escape relegation, chants of England No.1 not as silly as it sounds.
Hunty 7 shown up for lack of pace but does a decent job
Francis 9 revelation, great pacey crosses, good footballer that maybe gets caught out too far forward but could turn out to be a class act
Sodje 7 solid and much better than recent weeks
Maher 7 always involved, wouldn't like to be without him
Macca 8 love the bloke, say it again if he was with us September instead of Gutless then Col U would be below us, midfield dynamo
JCR 6 didn't show his usual energy but done ok
Gower 7 made some good runs and touches, goal as well even if he was surprised as anybody
Freddy 7 couple of classy touches and movement, denied by keeper as well
Bradders 5 liked the bloke in his previous wide position but far too slow and immobile for a forward
Clarke 7 nearly forgot, still worries me but great at times

Blimey Wiggy, spot on and I have to say I agree with 90% of that. My one and only disagreement would be your assessment of Maher. I thought he had a bit of a stinker today. You can tell when he's not going to have a good game from his first few touches. Far to many times when picking up a pass from either a wide position or from the back he just stuck his foot on it and dinked it forward in the hope that someone would get on the end of it, and yet at other times he can conjure up sublime well timed passes across field to pick out a player.

Granted he worked his socks off and made numerous well timed tackles but this I feel is a fault he's always had and to a certain extent is dictated by the attitude of the opposition in closing him down quickly.

Other than that a great game, a great atmosphere and a great following from the Blues faithful.

Can't wait until Tuesday now :)

To be fair the ratings normally come over o.k, it's just the Gutts is ****, Paynter is Conference etc stuff that gets slaughtered!

I quite often read on here people moaning at Hunt's lack of pace. He's bloody quick when he needs to be though.

I thought that both fullbacks were different class today.

I thought Francis, Clarke and Macca were awesome yesterday. Maher, Hunt, Bradbury and JCR did not play to their full potential though.

Will be interesting to see what Tilly does on Tuesday - will Hammell return to left back, if so will Hunt revert to right back and displace Francis which would be really harsh as Simon was magnificent for us yesterday both in attack and defence.

My guess is that Tilly doesn't often change a winning side so we'll see Hunty continue at left back (let's hope Burnley don't have a right winger as pacey as the one at Ipswich)

I saw that the Moose made an appearance from the bench, how did he look? Or wasn't he given enough time to impress?

He didn't really have a chance. The only involvement he had though I was impressed with. The ball was passed towards him in the box but he slipped, he managed to regain his footing and chase after the ball, holding it up in the corner like an experienced pro before scooping it over the defenders head Ronaldinho like.

I wasn't quite so impressed with yesterday as many people on here seemingly were. I watched the game from a box opposite our fans, so obviously had a different vantage point and wasn't surrounded by our own fans to get caught in the moment. From my view I thought that it was the poorest we've played for a little while. Thankfully though Ipswich weren't much cop either and Flavs made 2 or 3 super saves, especially the one from Haynes (who I've got to say I liked the look of).

We gave the ball away far too easily and with the exception of the outstanding and now vital Clarke, panicked at the back time and time again. We need to improve for Tuesday and most definitely the massive Leeds game. We were not helped though by the pitch and over the side I was on, it had been relayed pretty badly meaning JCR was wading through mud most of the time in the first half.

McCormack didn't seem himself to me whilst I thought Gower had a mare, continually mis-controlling the ball and or falling over in good positions. Bradbury had a poor game and maybe this run of 20 or so consecutive starts has taken it's toll on him and he should get a rest.

A last little mention, when I came out of the ground at about half five, the subs along with Wilson, Foran and Hooper were going through passing and move drills with Brush on the all weather surface behind the stadium. I thought that was pretty interesting. Plus, long after the stadium had emptied, Collis was being put through his paces by Lee Turner on the pitch. Nice to see extra work being put in and all that. :)

I agree Andy. I thought that throughout the game we were very poor. Gower was ineffective, JCR wasn't getting too much support but he did have a very good second half when we went forward on the counter. Fred was as lazy as ever, Badbuy was his normal poor ineffective self and i cant remember many times when we strung more than 5 passes together. We were very thankful to Darryl, who made a couple of very good saves ( although one was for the camera's ) and Clarky at the back who was as superb as ever.

My first away win i've seen since March 2006 against Col Ewe and i've been to at least a dozen away games since then! A great day had and found an excellent pub in the town centre called the plough where i was announced new killer champion! What an experience :D

Going back to huntys pace, I think v forrest last season I saw him sprinting back to make a tackle on a guy who was miles ahead one on one, he got back and made an amazing tackle, cant be that slow!

Totally agree, I think we played much better against Palace and Leicester, but this time go the rub of the green for a change.

Maher tackled, harried, and worked very hard, but his passing was as poor as I have seen it for a long time, and I thought that McCormack struggled to get invovled.

I agree that the pitch did not help, as a few times it stopped a flowing move, however with the winter that we have had, most pitches are the same at the moment.

We gave the ball away far too many times, lost possession too easily, and it was only the fact that Ipswich were woeful in the first half that we actually got something from the game.

Still, at last we have beaten a team that has been awful. So many times this season it has been, how did we lose to that shower of ****e.

Spot on - spot on .

its worth quoting you word for word ' cos not one is wasted.

How many teams would we have beaten this season if we had played well AND had the rub of the green ????????????????

I agree with the above

Didn't think we were particularly great either other than at the back. Clarke played well, as did Hunt (especially first half). Sodje made a mistake or two but got away with it, and Francis stayed on his feet well and used his pace well going forward.

Flavs was as consistently good as ever, but Gower faded fast, JCR didn't offer us much of an outlet, Macca was hit and miss - but Kev stood out for getting his foot in so much. And he didn't get booked for once...

Eastwood was non-existent first half, but improved in the second, and Bradbury for the first time this season really did look off the pace and somewhat ineffectual.

But the most pleasing thing was that all these players can, and probably MUST play better than they showed today, and we still got a win just through having that bit more desire (and some luck for a change - how did that first goal stand?!?). I also thought, unlike reports are saying, that the ref was really good - didn't fall for any half-baked dives or book anyone needlessly. A great day out and a great response by the boys after recent weeks, but I thought a patchy performance made to look better by a poor showing from Ipswich...

Sodje was my man of the match, was superb he won everything in the air and also dealt excellently with their extremely fast players!
