Darryl's Love Child
Flavs 7 little to do, smart stop early.
Super Cheese Wilson 3 woeful, didn't find a teamate all night.
Barrett 8 usual dominence.
Prior 9 top drawer m.o.m
Hunt 6 not as good as recent weeks.
Maher 8.5 controlled midfield, looked quality.
Gower 7.5 good to see his skill and movement back in the side.
Petts 5 sorry still don't get it,a little terrier that always goes backwards and creates very little.
Bents 6 more missed chances and not as effective as earlier in season.
Freddy 8 looked good again, does he only perform at home?
Dudders 6 plenty of effort but not much joy, still would have left him on as always capable. Juppy 7.5 looked good!

I thought Che had a decent enough game. No worse than usual.

Its all about opinions though.

Freddy MOM for me, closely followed by Maher and Barrett (as usual)

Unfair he had a number of good shots on target!

Oh well its all about opinions.

I thought Darryl's save early on wasn't a very good bit of keeping. He knocked it straight to Rodgers who should have scored. I also thought Flahavan should have come for 3 or 4 more crosses first half, but fortunately Shrewsbury didn't make anything of them. 6

Hunt - not sure if he picked up his injury in the opening minute but a relatively poor game after some excellent performances. As he was wearing gloves I wondered if his injury will last as long as the cold weather. 6

I agree Wilson was poor - but after a compotent first 20 minutes. When we are pushing forward he looks dire. He panics once pass the halfway line. 5

Prior. Agree. Class. 8.5

Barrett - wouldn't say he was dominant. 7

Pettefer. His industry is vital, but not one of his better games. 6

Maher. Poor game by his standards, seem to stroll it. His passing never drove us on, seemed to repeatedly pass to defenders in deep positions. 6

Bentley. MOM by a mile. Drove forward, chased, harried and hustled, won countless balls in midfield through his running. If you are being picky he didn't finish, but you can't have everything. 9

Gower. Looked lively but enver really created much. 7

Eastwood. Scored the goal, but repeatedly failed to retain possession. His partnership with Dudders isn't working. 7

Dudfield. Not tonight. 6

Subs - Jupp added much needed impetus. 8

Gray added another dimension to our attacking play. Should ahve made it 2-0. 7

You were obviously on the same planet as Ross! Do me a favour, Che only made a couple of errors and played fairly confidently. Petts chased around a lot and Bents won several headers.

Get off the Ross bus and open your eyes to reality.

Thought Wilson again looked solid as did our entire back-line. Petts had a decent game I thought, take his hard work out of the team and we'd be all the worse for it.

I thought Maher had a good game so I dunno what game you was watching! in fact I would of said it was between Maher and Prior for man of the match

I can't believe anyone can criticise Darryl Flahavan after his recent performances and last night. He did tremendously well to block their shot and couldn't possibly be blamed for the ball rebounding to Rodgers. He came for all the crosses he could realistically make and I believe hasn't conceded a goal at the Hall since the start of the year. Best goalkeeper in this division by far !

I can't believe someone suggests wilson panics past the half way line. That is absurd. He has put in no end of decent crosses throughout the season. Ultimately though his job is to defend, and thus he knows not to make too many charges forward on a regular basis in the knowledge as he wouldn't want to get caught out of position. Not so bad when Nicky is playing as he'll help out defensively but if Gower is playing he's less inclined to help defend. Clearly some of you just have no idea that a position on the football field actually has some meaning. Constant criticism of players does nothing to boost confidence - and that is what irritates me when it is unjustified. Che will do a job wherever he plays. OK so last season he was not playing to the same form he is now - but you've got to remember last season he was given few opportunities to establish himself in the team and after spending much of the previous season sidelined with three broken ribs he hadn't played for some time. It takes regular matches to find form. Do you really think Jay Smith will just step onto the pitch when he's ready again and be a completely fit, skillful dynamo? I think not. It will take some time. So, stop knocking players, without whom you'd have conceded far more goals this season (yep, look at the stats - when Tilly stopped fannying about with Nicky in defence results started going our way). That's Wilson's job and as long as he's doing it I'm happy.

Prior was class last night- even a tackle to rival Bobby Moore's against Brazil (but this one was against better opposition).

Petts also superb- a fantastic player. Lynchpin of the side. As far as I'm concerned ther is nothing to 'get' about Petts- it's bloody obvious.

Maher and Bentley- did Shrewsbury have midfield? These guys ran the show.

Jupp- very positive- opened the game up down the right.

Eastwood- great performance

Spinner berated his fellow players at the half time whistle for not pushing up. He made some excellent forward surges too, at one point deep into the shrews half only for the ball to come back immediately, from our own players sideways and then backwards

Jupp gives us another dimension and he can get back from a surging push forward which Nicolau sometimes fails on.
Bentley is a tireless performer but there are disquietened voices about some of the chances missed

Radio said last night that it seemed that his confidence drained away every time he got into the box. Shame - would have thought that his excellent goal against Darlo would have been just the confidence-boost he needed.

Bentley was worthy of the m-o-m award last night. He was up and down the pitch in true thundering form , unlucky not to score a goal and generally was there to close down any threat from a very poor Shrewsbury side.
In Che's difference I for one have been one of his biggest detractors but I believe that he is now developing into an accomplished full back (even though he is more suited to the right back role , being right footed). It was also good to see Juppy come on at half time, and he certainly personified the fighting spirit of the fringe first team players by showing true grit and determination in his performance.

Cheese is a liability at home! Might stick with him away from home when we need to be more defensively minded but at home when we need to break down sides i would go for Nicky!

He doesn't release the ball quick enough to Gower - Is far too predictable, and very rarely supports the wing. On one occasion it was crying out for him to get up there so the play could be spread but he took an eternity to get there!

Good to see Brushy pointing out a few of these things to him after the game!!

Can somebody tell me the website that shows the player stats from all the divisions, my mate doesn't believe me that Maher is near the top for assists this season.......

I agree 100%.

Defensively he is pretty sound, but going forward he is a liability. Last night he launched more counter-attacks for the opposition by needlessly giving the ball away or being caught in possession, than he launched Southend attacks.

At home against opposition who have come for the point we need full-backs to offer something attacking wise. I thought Jupp added this extra dimension to our play, but in contrast Che repeatedly let the opposition double-mark Gower by not getting far enough forward.

Flavs - 7, not too much to do,kept us amused when game stopped because of the snow!!

Hunt- 6, Didnt look his usual self, maybe an injury as he came off at half time??

Barret- 7.5, Confident display, looked dangeruous from corners again, also looked good on his runs forward with the ball!

Prior- 9 (Motm), Quality performance, contolled the defence well and even went forward quite a bit!

Che- 7, Steady perfromance from Che, not his best, not his worst.

Gower- 5, I thought he looked poor tonight, but after he's had time to get back into form he'll be back to his usual qulaity self.

Maher- 7, Looked controlled in the midfield and few nice passes. Had a row with someone in the west after taking a poor corner from what I could see!

Bentley-6, Still not his usual self, has been well off form latley. Gave the ball away to often. He'll be back though!

Petts- 7, Not his best performance, but seems to be one of out most consistent players as even when he has an average game, we still need him in the team.

Freddy- 8, Good game for Freddy, Hopefully he'll start banging them in again from now on.

Lawrie- 6, Very quiet game, not much came off for him. Still looked dangerous at times

(Jupp) - 7, Looked good when he came on, and put the cross in for the goal if i remember correctly.

(Gray) - 7, Looked very sharp when he came on, set up the goal, and I swear he scored just after Freddys goal, from where I was it looked like it went straight down the middle of the goal!
