Apart from me  who are your top 5 SUFC frontmen that you have seen play of all time?

Not the one who scored the most goals but on their day were good to watch.

I have to say mine were (in no particular order):

Billy Best
Steve Phillips
Derek Spence
Stanley
Freddy

Over to you lot (Anyone who mentions the "S" word either manager or player will be stoned!!!)

Bill Garner for Spence and Brett Angel for Stevie Phillips, but all seven along with Crown, Cadette, Chris Guthrie, Stuart (twinkletoes) Brace and Eddie Firmani were class acts over years gone by.

Forgot about Eddie but agree he was still a class act when with us.Guthrie was also useful too.

1. Stanley
2. Freddie
3. Richard Cadette
4. David Crown
5. Lee Barnard

Sure there may be better in years gone by but I am only writing of the ones I saw. It was close between Derek Spence and Lee Barnard though.

Biily Best, Stan and Freddie get in without any dissent. If it is only afew, I would want Bill Garner and Richard Cadette to be the next two, but then comes Eddie Firmani and Brett Angel. Wasn't Chris Guthrie's greatest fan, loved Gary Moore.

Stan Collymore (by a country mile)
Roy Hollis
Billy Best
Bill Garner
David Crown

Apologies to Freddy Eastwood, Richard Cadette, Eddie Firmani, Chris Guthrie & Brett Angel.
That would be my top 10!

Eastwood and Collymore for me, but the best partnership I've seen was Angell and Benjamin. Really complimented each other and benji brought the best out of Angell. Also, David Crown was awesome and Richard Cadette too!!!

Apart from swapping Crown and Cadette, that'd be my list.

What about Derrick Parker? Did he not play in the Liverpool at Roots Hall game? Nobody has mentioned him so far.

That's the trouble each decade has their own favourites and I liked The Keith Mercer/Derek Spence partnership.

So come on what about strike partners?

What no Roy McDonough on the list?

Roy played at the WHCS the other day for Kem Izzets testimonial along with many others from our conference days, and other promotion seasons, a few old Southend players included the likes of Steve Mcgavin, Dave Martin, Paul Roberts, Nicky Smith to name but a few. Roys story is mentioned in the East Anglian on the link below and if you click on the other links on that page you will see a picture of the current Roy MmcDonough look!

There is also a link to the Col U facebook page showing players and action from the day, see if you can spot any other ex Southend players, it wont be difficult but they may look a bit older unlike us of course!

Derrick Parker did play against liverpool at roots hall, he was clean through on goal and hoofed the ball over the crossbar.
Having said that he was a useful player that had that canny act of being able to hang in the air for ages when challenging for crosses.
Any way what about cussack and morris ?

All of the 'obvious' names already mentioned, but not enough of the under rated guys who made the team click.
Benji( and not because of THE goal) and Gary Moore were essential parts of the team and would get nothing but accolades
from their team mates.
