Championship:
Mohsni :dim:
Benyon :whistling:

Don't be silly, even for a joke that is way too far for them to be considered Championship quality. Hang your head in shame, they are easily Premiership class. :raspberry:

As Mancini seems to have failed with Balotelli, maybe we could shove Mohsni that way ...

The whole team if they get promoted.

100% right ( am I really saying that to a COl U fan :winking:)
We have beaten league one teams this year, yes Brentford away we were outclassed , but they are battling for promotion and have just held Chelsea.
This team might not be good enough to be at the top of league 1, but it could certainly survive IMO

Championship! Absolutely none of them.

League One - about half a dozen, of which Timlin is definitely NOT one of them.

dont get me wrong im thrilled people are now backing smith as you know i rate him but was not long ago people were hammering him and calling for a new keeper. how a couple of good performances change opinions. keep it up smithy .

Thats because Footy fans are particularly fickle in our love/hate of players ... it can change so quick who this week is HOT/NOT ...

HOT ........Smith,Clohessey,Cresswell,Phillips,Hurst,Spillane,Tomlin,Corr

NOT.........Spicer,Eastwood,Benyon,Timlin,Barker,Straker,Harris

IMHO there is little or no difference in class between the top 6 or 7 in Lge 2 and the bottom 7 or 8 in Lge 1. The best half of our Squad would probably be at least OK.

I would agree with this, however, if people looked at how we performed (albeit understrength) in the Brentford replay, it was clear to see the majority of our players were miles apart from a top league 1 side.....with the exception of Paul Smith of course.

There isn't a huge difference between League Two and most of League One, especially when you look at how we've done against League One teams in the last two seasons (Oldham, Brentford, Bury, Orient). I think Smith (he's played at a higher level most of his career), Clohessy, Cresswell, Phillips (certainly the one of last season), Hurst, Tomlin, Assombalonga and a fully-fit Corr and Eastwood could all hold their own in League One. Bentley and Woodyard might be there in the future. It's hard to say which ones could play at Championship level as few of them have been tried against that level. I think Assombalonga has a bright future in the game, and possibly Clohessy could step up. The others might struggle against the better quality.

I think it really isn't easy to predict how well some players will react to playing in a higher division. After several seasons scoring goals for Stockport, Rochdale and Rotherham in the bottom divisions, Adam Le Fondre has continued to score goals in the Championship and now the Premiership for Reading, much to the surprise of very many people who thought he was just another lower-league journeyman. For what it's worth, I think we were wrong in not giving Mark Bentley and Wayne Gray a chance to prove themselves at the next level after we got promotion.

I personally don't think Clohessy could play in the Championship. Whilst his attacking attributes are probably adequate to play at such a level, he's very prone to defensive slip-ups and positioning errors that go unpunished at this level, but would be exploited in the second tier.

He's a bit prone to getting caught under the flight of a ball if it's in the air, as if he exaggerates his own vertical leap and is then unable to get enough on the ball to head it clear. Given the accuracy of midfielders and the pace of wingers in the Championship, it'd soon get highlighted as a way to get in behind him. A team like Blackpool, that could easily switch between Ince/Phillips, would get a fair bit of joy from that alone. He's also prone to getting himself in a bit of a state if the opposition full-back can double up on him. This probably occured most notably in last-season's second play-off leg against Crewe, when Tootle and Leitch-Smith ran riot against him in the first half.

I don't mean this as a character assassination of Clohessy, I'd value him as one of Sturrock's most astute signings as he's cost us nothing and has probably been our most consistent performer under Sturrock's tenure, but as we found out the Championship is a completely different ballgame to Leagues One and Two, and very few players handle the step-up well.

Of the current squad, not including loanees, not many would interest Championship scouts. However, if Barry Corr could prove his fitness and ability to play a full season without running himself into the ground, he'd definitely be worthy of a watch. The likes of Grant Holt and Rickie Lambert have proven that goalscoring targetmen are a commodity, and even Jon Parkin managed to forge something of a career for himself at that level.

Agree with ESB.

We concede a lot of goals from crosses to Clohessy's area. Brentford away, Rochdale at home are two examples off the top of my head.

Very solid L2 player though and his attacking play is invaluable to us.
