Who are the real fans?

I think you are a real fan when you look at the clubs recent success and surge in attendances with a sense of unease and suspicion. When you regard those who don't attend pointless midweek away matches in far flung locations due to work, romantic or family commitments as weirdos on the periphery of society.

In my mind a Real Fan is anyone who really feels something break inside them when we lose a game, and who's life takes on a positive aspect for days after a win.

How though, do we then refer to those poor souls who are determined to spend far more time and money than they really should on watching the Shrimpers all over the country? Shall we call these guys Super-Fans?

And then what about the individuals who run the coaches, trust, fund-raising etc. I reckon Super-Duper-Fans should cover it.

The point I'm trying to make is that I'd never tell someone they're not a Real Fan just because they only go to some matches, as long as they really support the Shrimpers. But I do rate some fans more than others, and I believe that I do so with some justification.

Anyone who was at the home cup game against Barnsley last season.

It was royally ****ting it down, and there were around 3,000 in the ground. It was a sell-out the home game before and a sell-out the week after. But the weather that day was atrocious.

Anyone willing to sit through that was a real fan ;).

We were mugged off with that foul at the end,or was it handball difficult to tell in that bog.Never looked in trouble all game and F****y would have got 3 if the ball hadn't stopped suddenly in the lake of a goalmouth.

I was there. It was also my 3 year old's first game. We are finally "real fans"!

Nail on the head, I think you have summed it up pretty well there SF. At the end of the day as said already, you wouldn't be posting on this forum in the first place if you wasn't a "real fan".

I'd like to nominate Wiggy as the perfect example of a real fan. Always to be relied upon to give fair, well thought out comments, doesn't have a go at the management and players after a defeat and she's(?) well respected amongst her peers, especially on this forum.

Oh to be like Wiggy.
