Which single position needs strengthening the most?

Which single position would you like to see strengthened first

I've thought about this some more and I'm not sure about getting in a new player but I'm adamant that we need to sort out the defence to have any chance of hitting the top six spot Tilson's after.

On a slight side-note, am I right in thinking that Swansea went top at a similar time when we got promoted or had we wrestled top spot off them by now?

Centre-back needs improving, but if Leon goes then it has to be a new striker as we haven't got any other forwards who even look like scoring a goal at the moment!

I don't think it does. Richards distribution may be poor, but we don't conceede many with him in the team. Richards with ANO from Clarke/Barrett and we'd be fine.

I've gone with the wingers needing something extra. Black injured, Gower not really hitting even mid-form consistantly yet, there's not much service to the front men from out wide.

I know lots of you are saying up front needs strengthening, but without service this becomes pointless.

As was stated in another thread just a couple of days ago, two years ago Swansea were top and we were sixth....

I suspect that most people will say centre-forward but I'm certain that with an Efe Sodje or a Spencer Prior style centre-half we'd be a far stronger side and I'd take that over any striker that we could bring in.
I refer to the answer that my learned colleague gave above.

Lordy, we could do with a Spinner...

Are there any decent candidates out there? Is it me, or do they not make centre halves like they used to? I mean, Leon "Toblerone / 50-pence-piece" Cort has made his way round the Championship when, if I'm really honest, I've always seen him as a very average sort of player... certainly not in Spinner's class, that's for sure.

Hey ho,

Matt

Right midfield, G Man and two of King Kev, Macca and Bailey sorts out the other three midfield slot but right mid is lacking.

Scannell needs to settle and adapt without us pressure and as Mitchell Cole showed it's a big step up for some.

You can't win games if you're conceeding the number of goals that we do, either. If we stop conceeding then we only need to score once per game which our forward players are more than capable of. Remember the Coventry home game last season? Freddy has a blinder, works his **** off all match and gets two goals only for us to conceed three bad goals. If he phoned it in in the second half of the season then he couldn't really be blamed after nights like that.

Although I am inclined to agree that defending is the real problem , I think we could get away with it at this level and if we had a prolific strike force it wouldn't matter so much if we shipped one or two . And of course we would hopefully be spending more time up the other end .

For all we know the Swansea keeper last Saturday might have been complete rubbish

But I would say, at our level and with our budget, it is a simpler matter to steady a defence than unearth a prolific strike force. The basics of defending as a unit, which is our problem, should be possible to coach.

Would be very interested to see how the goals for and against matched this time two years ago.

Two years ago today we had 36 points from 22 games. We'd scored 34 goals and conceeded 24.

Today we've got 32 points from 20 games having scored 33 goals and conceeded 28. So as suspected, we're scoring and conceeding more per game.

We need a centre-half.

That is very true and lets hope that during the last 5 days we have worked on our distribution from the back . Collis Clarke and Richards cannot keep booting the ball to the opposition without expecting to put themselves back under pressure
