This may seem controversial but if we keep him for next season - I would make Bonne captain.

If you watch him he is always talking, especially when Bim was here and to Kendall - when Kendall missed that sitter at the North Bank goal versus.....(help!).....he was straight over to him with an arm around the shoulder.

Plus he - Bonne - has a nice element of ****housery about him (the time wasting in the corner v Oldham for example).

Kind of agree with this. Bonne has his moments! Not sure I want to completely give up on him. Can we, and should we get better? Of course, but if we don't I think he needs almost a repurposing. He needs to be on assists and definitely not headers.

Similar to our wonder boy. We know Gussy isn't great at actual defending, can we move him up the pitch a bit more permanently? Not to an out-and-out striking position, but just enough so he's doing what he does best (at least this season) and allow a better, pure defender to sit nearer goal.

I'd definitely keep Bonne.

Along with being a grafter, he's a ****house as you rightly say and every team in this league needs at least one of those.

He's grown on most of us massively through the season, for which he deserves credit for as he took some dogs abuse in the beginning. I think with a proper pre-season behind him, he may just start finding the net more regularly. Not our 30 goal man that we crave and need to try and purchase, but he could hit double figures I reckon and be a real influence on the team in other ways.

Will be interesting to see if the club take up the 1 year option on him.

I’m part of the Bonne fan club. Along with Gus, he seems to have a bit of fire and personality about him and he’s shown he cares. I remember Orient fans warning about his attitude, well I haven’t seen that, not disrupting our team spirit anyway. They did suggest he was a confidence player, I think as he’s got older he’s maybe matured and is less selfish perhaps?! He also seems to play better when wound up about something. I’d absolutely keep him, as a squad player. I’d persuade him to be a tad more selfish and practice his shooting though.

100% agree with you. With a full pre season, I think Bonne could be a key player for us

Although Bonne currently is struggling to find the net. I think he has proved himself to be a good overall footballer. I’d keep him.
I watch the NL highlights package most weeks, and just on Saturday there were a fair few goals where a hefty boot down field found a sprinter latching on and wellying it past the keeper: Pearce for starters against Aldershot.
The Gateshead third against FGR was another example of pace against a retreating defence producing dividends.
I don't think Bonne has that, nor does Hopper, and certainly not, Walker. We need at least one Usain Bolt!

I am another in the "keep Bonne" camp.

I am hoping he can be a foil for an out and out goalscorer and we get one, I also think with a full pre season behind him, he'd be an asset to the squad. Also he might feel less pressure to be his natural self game wise, as I don't think he is an out and out striker.

Not a great fan of strikers being captains (anymore than goalies) but I think Bonne would possibly be the best choice from the players we have at the moment.

I’m sure he could score plenty of goals and help a good, fellow striker do the same,if we had one AND if we had a manager who knew how to use them.

I would like to see change of some sort, that means not keeping the same and hoping that it gets better.
Whether it's management or players I'm not worried, we just need something different as this season has been really poor.

I think Kev and co will probably definitely know that, and act accordingly. Watch this space.

He offers more, seems genuine in his passion for the club. A great mentor

But not a captain next season in my view. If he is offered a new contract then I want to see him concentrate purely on leading the line, doing his sh1tehousery bit when needed, and scoring goals. You can't see what needs doing Captain wise when leading the front line.

No doubt there are many players out there who are better than what we now have on contract but can we afford me?

It is all very well releasing some or most of our present squad but I am not sure that with the funds available to us we can be certain what we can afford to sign will necessarily be better than we already have.

If you've been watching since 1952 @bluesfansince1952 , that's 73 years. You may still have the footballing brain but I would imagine the engine has slowed down more than a bit (mine has). So why should the Club take the risk and afford you? :Winking:
