Which FL side would you twin us with.

Orient have similar crowds to us; run on a similar budget; spend the same amounts on players (ie very little); even target the same players; are managed by an old Southend player; and have a seemingly ambitious chairman.

Obviously though, they're the poor relations. With awful fans in an awful part of London.

Agree definitely the Swans.

No, can't be Swansea.

They have spent some time in the top division, have twice won the Football League Trophy, have been in the semi-finals of the FA Cup twice, have won the Welsh Cup 11 times, been runners-up in the Welsh Cup 8 times and participated in the European Cup Winners' Cup 7 times.

We can hardly say we've done the same, can we?

I think its a cross between Dave's Gills and Napsters Donny personally....

I cant think which is a scummier area....Might just go for Donny.

Surely you've got to give it to Gillingham?

They're nearer the sea than Doncaster!

Their record attendance was in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, like us, whereas Donny's was in the 3rd Division North.

The ground capacity at Priestfield (11400) is closer to the Hall's than either Belle Vue or Donny's new place.

Priestfield has been converted to an all-seater stadium by a mixture of new build and slapping seats on terraces, much like the Hall. Priestfield is also slap bang in the middle of a long-standing residential area, all I remember from Belle Vue is a gravelly car park, a main road and a racecourse!

As has already been mentioned, the considerable number of players who've played for both clubs, and Peter Taylor who's managed both.

But most interesting of all (stop yawning!) is looking at the comparable league histories. Doncaster Rovers joined the league in the Second Division in 1901. They failed to gain re-election a couple of times, but went on to enjoy further spells in the Second Division and of course spent a further five seasons out of the Football League between 1998 and 2003.

Gillingham, however, entered the Football League in the inaugural season of the Third Division in 1920, the same as us. OK, they spent five seasons outside of the Football League either side of the Second World War, but they were otherwise like us a Division 3/4 team, until they entered the second tier for the very first time in their history just three years after we were relegated from that level for the first time.

Here are the number of seasons the clubs have spent in the various tiers since they entered the Football League:

DONCASTER 1st - 0; 2nd - 14; 3rd - 30; 4th - 31; NonLg - 19

GILLINGHAM 1st - 0; 2nd - 5; 3rd - 54; 4th - 16; NonLg - 5

SOUTHEND 1st - 0; 2nd - 7; 3rd - 53; 4th - 20; NonLg - 0

So, my conclusion is that we are more closely tied to the Gills than the Rovers!

If I was your teacher you would get a A+ for this effort. Good work.

It has got to be the Gills. Like us they will never reach the Premiership despite having enthusiastic chairmen and plans for new grounds. Like us they lose a lot of local fans to a london team(Charlton in their case, although i daresay some of these may now drift back this season).Like us they hung on in the championship for 4-5 seasons (as we did in the 90's). The only difference between us is that having gone there in 2005, the town centre resembles the Lebanon, whereas ours looks like Slovakia and they have played at Wembley twice in the last 10 years, whereas we hav'nt and probably never will do.

OK , so it looks like the majority favour Gillingham . So when's this 'twinning ' going to take place ?

Will we be able to wave to them across the Estuary ??
