As it goes ive two Access all area passes for the download festival Just hoping for some decent weather and a stack full of batteries to grab lots of interviews n stuff. ps anyone interested i have a Download/monsters of rock special, airing on the 6th June at 9pm featuring the 30 year history of the festival.

Good stuff mate first time I went was in 1995 to see Metallica for the first time, i'd never been to any kind of rock/metal concert (apart from Jethro Tull with my folks!) before so was overwhelmed for most of it but Metallica absolutely ****ing blew me away!! Can't believe that was 15 years ago!

Leigh fishing festival.

The Leigh Regatta has turned a bit tacky these last few years.

Beer festival at Earls court, great day out,and not a rock band in sight, maybe just a little jazz trio, smashing.

I've seen The Hump(Humphrey L.)there in the past and missed Paul Jones doing an acoustic gig the same year.
My main complaint about the EC venue is that there aren't enough chairs there when things get busy late in the evening.Maybe I'm just getting too old for vertical drinking these days.;)

just remembered I'm going to the Dot to Dot festival in Manchester on Monday.

Who's doing the December ATP? I haven't been to one since 2006 I think, might try to make it to one next year. Several mates (inc 2 SZers) went to the Pavement one last week, I was very jealous.

Another 'Other' here, I'm going to Field Day in July.

I'm going to the Godspeed you Black Emperor one. There is also a Belle and Sebastian one too. it's my first ATP, and I'm very excited!!

Barcelona scene.Primavera Sound festival.Won't be going this year as there's no major attraction(for me) like last year's superb Neil Young gig.Though, I'm sort of tempted by Florence and the Machine. In the June/July El Grec festival Corine Bailey Rae is playing at the outdoor Grec theatre which could be the event of the summer.Dylan is at the Pueblo Espanyol for the upteenth time in June.Kris Kristofferson and Pattie Smith due at the Porta Ferrada festival at San Feliu on the Costa Brava in July. Some interesting gigs in the Gerona area over the summer too though I'll be passing on the Beach Boys!

Might be going to Benicassim this year for the first time but its not be confirmed.

One thing that concerns me somewhat is the searing 40 degree heat but hey, it could be amazing.

always wanted to do Benicassim or Cochella, however the thought of waking up in a 40 degree tent with the sun beating down has put me off... there is no worse feeling IMO.

Dot to Dot - Manchester review

So on Bank Holiday Monday Manchester was host to the annual Dot to Dot festival. After spending Saturday in Bristol and Sunday in Nottingham, over 50 bands made their way to 6 different venues in Manchester. £25 was a decent price, and drinking and music begun at 2pm.

Bands I saw:

Blood Red Shoes - like YYY's mixed with Sleater Kinney and Placebo, rocking... but a little samey

Egyptian Hip Hop - not as good as their name, very cool indie-kids play noodly indie ****. May be good in the future.

Daisy Dares You - Don't ask, but I promised to go with the Missus. 16 year old Daisy looks more like 40. She jumped around the tiny stage, and had to put up with some battered teenager touching her repeatedly, much to the annoyance of his girlfriend. One hit wonder

Beach House - love the album but live they're very soporific and just plain dull.

Liars - the one band I had really gone for. Absolutely amazing, new album sounds amazing live and Angus Andrew is a fantastic front-man

Los Campesinos - Was fantastically drunk by this stage. They put on a typically lively show and for an 8 piece make a lovely racket. I don't think they quite have the songs, and are a little whiney - but good fun none the less.

We decided to skip the late night action, it was 1am and we'd been drinking for 11 hours. Some late night fried chicken and off to bed.

Look out for Dot to Dot next year, we didn't even bother with the biggest bands there (80s matchbox, Mystery Jets), the line up is superb and £25 is good value.

make sure you catch Phoenix, who are superb live (a true festival band).

I'm going to Pukkelpop in Belgium. The link's here if anyone's interested (tickets are sold out though, for the first time in its 25-year history) - www.pukkelpop.be/en - It's a pretty impressive line-up and relatively cheap too. Can't wait.
