In fairness, anyone that knows what the illness parkinson entails will fully understand the daily struggles he goes through.
I have observed over the last few months quite a decline in his mobility and it is obvious to see how this awful illness is progressing - so therefore if he quits at the end of the season no-one can blame him for going as he needs to make plans to ensure his quality of life is maintained

Pretty sure PS will be off at the end of this season. Regardless.

Even though PS could br off at the end of the season I don't think it'll be through lack of promotion.

I get the feeling RM doesn't want promotion until FF is being built, higher division means higher wages and I wouldn't envisage the crowds would be much better.

How many times have we been bought before the courts, had embargos? Money is very tight, SUFC's problems started when we were relegated from the Championship and didn't get promotion back.

If this is the case I would hope he was kept on in an advisory position, so the new manger and chairman/ceo can tap into his undoubted knowledge and contacts in the game.

Says Tinks dressed in nurse's uniform. :slurp:

I hope not

An adversary is generally considered to be a person, group, or force that opposes and/or attacks.

If Sturrock does indeed stand down at the end of the season and Coughlan gets the nod, then we'd be wise to offer him a Dario Gradi-esque position upstairs, overseeing the transition. The familiarity and continuity we've had within the management over the last few years is probably one of the strongest facets of the club at the moment, and we'd do well to at least try and hold on to that for as long as possible. Of course, that's if Sturrock would even consider such a role...

I thought that Sturrock had a similar position at Plymouth at one point.

Er. Our financial problems started a long way before that

Well this is supposed to just be a leg infection. Lets hope that's the case and for Paul's sake rather than the club, that he's OK

Indeed, wasn't it around the late Sixties that the Roots Hall market was supposed to be the saviour of 'cash strapped Southend United' according to the newsreels of the day.
IIRC the next financial saviour was building blocks of flats on the South Bank......

TBH we're damned lucky that we've still got a Football League club to support that's never been out of the League since we joined, many others like us have dropped out and come back, or not, looks like Newport County or Wrexham may well be the next back after some years out, or even just gone into the mists of time; Bradford Park Avenue, anyone

Never met Paul Sturrock face to face

but I will make sure before before does he moves on ( hope not for a a while) I will drive up to Southend to say a Big Thank you to him ...

A Southend United Legend in my eyes and turned my club around, without Paul I believe we would be a Lincoln City today he stopped the rot

I think I should have said "exacerbated by relegation from the Championship". I know in the Eighties we nearly went to the wall and I don't think we were that far off during the 2009-2010 season.

If anything our financial woes were exacerbated by our promotion to the Championship, not relegation from it. It was that promotion which saw our wage bill increase substantially, and we were lumbered with some hefty contracts that simply weren't sustainable. The difference between us and a club like Colchester, which had a wage bill far in excess of ours at the time despite poorer gates, was that Cowling had deeper pockets than Martin. It's not much of a surprise that the season which has seen Cowling reduce Colchester's wage bill is the season they've plummeted towards the League One exit door.
