Whats happend to Walker?

Not going to be happy if this is another youngster hounded out. When are we going to learn to support our players rather than getting on their backs?

If Tilly gets rid of Walker when we are down to the bare bones then he really has lost the plot. Why was he not on the bench at Stockport when no other strikers were available?

he needs to learn to consistielaty (cant spell it sorry) control the ball sometime his control is brilliant at other times he is a brick wall
and he needs the confidence to shoot he is a striker after all

Not sure what to make of Walker - which is how Tilly probably views him. At the start of the season, we all say 'we want a 20 goal a season man'. Problem is, to do that, he has to play 46 games, plus a few cups. Walkers inconsistency means the manager loses faith, the player loses confidence and we are where we are and thats football! Consistency gains the Managers faith = player confidence = 'automatic' selection! Down to you Mr. Walker.

This pace that is always spoken about with Walker - he never uses it! He's not lightning quick anyway, it seems to be a bit of a myth.

My problem with Walker, and the reason why I couldn't care less if he moves on because I don't think he's going to be a star elsewhere, is that he's got no footballing brain, thus is useless far too often. Where as Hooper had a bit of nous about him, could play clever passes, could get in behind defences, could get into good positions in the box, Walker can't do any of this. Walker is always head down, run forward. He never looks to see where his team mates are, he never plays the simple ball, he never releases the ball when he should, he doesn't get in goalscoring positions, half the time he couldn't trap a bag of cement, the list goes on. He's been poor this season and he wasn't great last, so if someone comes in and takes him and therefore allows us to get another striker in I'm all for it.

No, it's down to Walker, Tilson and the coaching team to sort this out, not Walker alone. How many times have we seen over the last few seasons that Tilson seems to decide a player is no longer good enough and rather than try and coach them to be better, freezes them out instead.

The Walker situation on Saturday reminds of a game towards the end of the championship season. A home win would have kept us up for another week, yet despite Lawson being fit, and our only other striker available, Tilson stuck 4 defencive players and Collis on the bench.

It seems Walker will be joining Scannell and Foran at the door marked exit, following the likes of Hooper, Liptak, Kightly, Cole and Lawson at of Roots Hall, when a better coaching and selection policy may have helped them become valuable players.

He doesn't have electric pace but he does have great acceleration. There have been times when the ball has been played into the channels and Walker has looked second favourite but then latched onto the ball with a late burst of speed. The acceleration issue is also useful when he runs at players because he has a fair bit of trickery too. He needs to use the ball better in those situations but I think that will come in time. As I said in the other thread, he's still very young.

Thing is, that criticism was also levelled at JCR from quite a few on here and yet he's now shining in the Championship. I'm not saying that Walker will definitely go the same way but he is a few years younger than JCR and for me is still to reach his peak.

I'm not sure about that either. Take another look at Alan McCormack's last minute winner against Huddersfield last season. He was played through by an absolutely sublime flick by Walker. He also set up goals for Barney at Crewe last season and at Walsall this season.

I really hope Tilly doesn't go in for another striker unless he's significantly better than what we have now - and that's not likely really. The priority lies in other areas, particularly in midfield, where we are short on dynamic players, and defence, where we are still vulnerable.

I'm all for keeping Walker. He didn't do too badly at all when he deputised during the striker crisis (three goals in six games?) and he came on to good effect against Northampton. The fact that he can play on the wing is also a bonus.

Great points, very odd how these players are frozen out completely - with very few reserve games at the moment too.

Fair point, but a whole new subject! Tilly has a track record of deciding a players fate and freezing them out too soon. I first saw this as a weakness when he dismantled a good chunk of the side that gained us two promotions and signed some very average players to try and compete in the Championship.
