What time should I leave?

We are leaving at one, going M11 and A1 and expect to be in Donny around 5 o'clock ... can the Donny fans on here recommend a decent boozer as i missed the trip in December

What? Where did you divert,Liverpool??

Roadworks and heavy traffic on a Friday afternoon. Near Peterborough it wasn't moving. The A1 is only 2 lanes which doesn't help. Took much longer on the way home due to an overturned lorry closing the A1 about 20 minutes outside Doncaster, we didn't get back until nearly 3PM. Better to be safe and sorry especially if anyone uses the M1, I've never had an easy run on that.

As for pubs. Well near the ground, come off the motorway (J3 MI8, might take a while on the link road), straight on at all roundabouts, you pass the stadium on your left (you'll see it as you approach) and continue around the lake all the way round. You'll come to a hotel and cinema complex, park round the back of the cinema (on the small road, not the car park at the front) and the Cheswold is just up there. Nice little family pub that will get busy, but it's friendly. Good if you've got kids as there's a big play area, good food and only 10 minutes walk around the lake to the ground. It's a pleasant walk but allow a bit more time after the game for the crawl around the lake as most home fans head that way.

Hope it helps anyway.

A Group of us are meeting at Cambridge Services at 2.30pm on Friday, then straight up the A1. Any congestion, the A1 has more options for leaving and hitting the back roads, but look out for the Average speed cameras on the A14 section immediately at the top end of the M11. Looking to arrive between 4.30 - 5.15pm and have a few beers and a bite to eat early up there.

Leaving SWF at 1-15pm - 1.30pm, and going cross country on the B1046 (?) via Hatfield Broad Oak, to J8 of the M11. Good stedy route, that very few people use, and found it when I used to commute to Corby.

I'd say 2pm, 2:30 at the absolute latest. On a clear run at 80mph it's a three hour drive without stopping but with Friday traffic could be a lot, lot longer.

I'm currently booked on the coaches but am tempted to cancel and drive as I'm a bit nervous they're cutting it a bit fine on timings, especially as they're limited to 70mph and don't have the ability to put their foot down and make up time (not that I advocate speeding in any way, shape or form :) )

Coaches are limited to 56mph just the same as lorries.

The Trust coaches regularly do 70 on motorways, and the reason the Donny guys had trouble getting down was the timing. Essex is always gridlocked on a Friday afternoon in the south of the county particularly heading our way. It should honestly not take 5 hours to get up there. If the roads are moving ok, you can easily do Donny in 3 hours.

By Train

Doncaster Station is around two miles away so you are probably best taking a taxi to the ground. If you do have time on your hands and you fancy the long walk (around 25-30 minutes) then the route from the railway station is as follows:

On coming out of the railway station, walk to the dual carriageway across the car parking area and turn to face to your right (i.e. away from the road tunnel under the Frenchgate shopping centre). You are now looking down a more or less straight line to the stadium. Provided you then use the appropriate places to cross roads as necessary you just follow the line of the dual carriageway to the roundabout adjacent to Vardy's Renault dealership. Then turn left into Middle Bank and follow the road round to the stadium.

The bus service has been improved for matchdays. From around two hours before kick off there is a dedicated shuttle service from the Doncaster Interchange bus station, which is adjacent the train station and under the Frenchgate Shopping Centre. (Although i am not sure the details are the same for evening games). This is Route 75X and runs every 10 minutes direct to the Stadium. It leaves Stand C6 and the journey takes less than 10 minutes depending on traffic. The bus stops in a lay-by at the Ground close to the Ticket Office and after the match leaves for Doncaster Interchange from the same place. Cost is presently £1.10 each way'.

Were To Drink

The Stadium has its own Sports bar on the outside of the West Stand. Away fans are admitted to the bar (unless there is an objection to this for some games by the local Police), however the bar soon fills up prior to the match and so can be difficult to get in. Inside the stadium John Smith's bitter and Fosters lager are available at a cost of £2.70 a pint. There is a bar in the bowling alley next to the Vue Cinema, which is situated on the other side of the lake'.

Otherwise there is not much near to the stadium (the nearest pub to be found is the Lakeside, Beefeater outlet near Stadium Way is for home fans only), so it may be best to stop for a drink on the way.

What is it Like for Away Fans?

Away fans are located in the North Stand at one end of the stadium, where around 3,344 fans can be accommodated. Clubs with a smaller following will be allocated around a third to two thirds of that number meaning that on those occasions the end is shared with home supporters. The view of the playing action, leg room, and facilities in this stand are all good, although fans are set well back from the pitch as there is a substantial tarmac looking track which surrounds it.

The concourses are a good size and there are a number of televisions on view to keep supporters entertained. Pies (including the Chicken Balti pie), pasties and vegetarian 'Pizza Pods are supplied by Shire Foods and cost £2.30 each. Burgers and Hot Dogs are also available as well as alcohol.

The stadium is belived to be more atmospheric than the Belle Vue ground which was largely open to the elements. This is a bit unusual as most clubs that move to new grounds usually complain that the atmosphere suffers in the new arena, however at the Keepmoat this is not the case. The stewarding is relaxed. The club have their own troupe of cheerleaders called the Vikettes, who provide entertainment before the game and half time, but i am sure they are not a patch on the Blue Bells

Please note that cash is not accepted at the turnstiles, they are ticket only. Tickets can be purchased from the South Stand ticket office

Are these coaches able to fly over traffic then?

The coaches cannot do over 100k (about 60-62 mph ??). With them leaving at 14.30ish from the Southend area if they have only got one driver they will need (by law) at a 45 minute stop at around 18.15 (based on the driver starting work at 13.45), so I hope they have got two drivers as like ORM says it is cutting it a bit fine on a Friday.
