Question What is making you happy today?

This made me chuckle:

Waitrose, Fossetts Farm. I think I saw Nathan Ralph standing next to me by the take away sandwiches. Not wishing to look a complete ********, I didn't ask him (he didn't have Club kit on). But what I did notice as a result was that Waitrose have re-introduced their free coffee with your shopping offer, so thank you Waitrose and Nathan (probably) for the coffee.

Cricket again. We had no idea what to get our eldest son for his birthday this year. (His birthday is late August.) My wife and I were discussing it whilst sitting at Lord's with both our sons watching the abomination that is The 100 (the boys love it) when my wife suggested a wicket keeping lesson with the Middlesex wicket keeper. Given my son is a wicket keeper/batter and is a huge Middlesex fan (he has a shirt and bat both signed by the whole Middx team) that seemed perfect.

The problem was that I had no idea who he was, how to get in touch with him, or how much he would charge. I messaged my friend the football agent as he also manages players from other sports to see if he thinks a player would do that. His answer was that he might well do and told us what he would expect a player to charge.

So, having found out that the Middx wicket keeper is John Simpson and that my son thinks he's amazing, I rang the Middx commercial department and put the proposal to them. They said they wouldn't deal with it, but would pass my contact details on to John. It took a bit of chasing, but eventually he messaged me to ask for more details. I explained that my son isn't some kid who just wants a lesson, I explained that he's his team's wicket keeper and that he's part of the Herts development squad. I also pointed out that Middx play a lot of their matches at my son's club's home ground when Lords isn't available so if he was happy to do it we'd be happy if he wanted to combine it with a Middx match.

He basically said he'd do it, but that he'd like to wait until the season has finished and he had been on holiday for a friend's wedding etc. He also said he would rather not do it at Radlett, but would Lords be OK?!!

So, on my son's birthday we gave him a card and a "voucher" for one wicket keeping lesson which explained the lesson wasn't with his normal coach, but would be with John Simpson at Lords! His reaction was amazing!

We've scheduled it for this Sunday, and John's asked us to give him an extra hour before the lesson so he can take us on a tour of Lords first!

Finally decided to move. Big decision but has to happen in the next year. Somewhere quieter. ☺️☺️
Some property developer called RONdriguez is looking to offload this village in Spain. Needs it to pay a tax bill or so something. He thought he could turn it into a hotel but turns out needs deep pockets.

BBC News - Salto de Castro: Spanish village on sale for €260,000

Smarty (my mobile network provider) is giving me an extra 2GB a month ago no extra cost. Got a text through today. Now on 6GB a month for £6

West Country and Norfolk and Suffolk. Possibly wales. Just don’t see a future for myself in the south east. Too expensive haha
I'd presume West Country more expensive than Norfolk or Suffolk (?), but usually few degrees warmer in winter months, although always seem to experience winter storms & floods!.
As for Wales, some lovely places, but watch the weather forecast & it seems to rain more ( like Scotland ) than the other areas you mentioned?.

Good points. If I moved west I’d go in land as your correct the seaside towns are very very expensive. I’ve lived in wales before. Didn’t mind the rain but it got really hot in the summer aha could be as I was in a big city.

Also noticed how London and south east are getting more drought and extreme heat so hoping to escape that aha. Nowhere is perfect but I really love the idea of being away from it all surrounded by fields aha
