what have we gained from selling barney

a possibly 250k and a serious relegation fight.

from the start i always said why sell him and risk being relegated.

if it was the case of putting that 250k for the sale towards a new player then i can accept that and be happy but its not and it never is with us.

we gained a freebit from spencer and paterson who i will gladly give them a chance but no money being spent again.

where is all this money going. paying off bills blah blah blah. the teams comes first not rons mis-management and mess-ups.

now a huge risk has been taken and we are in the thick of a relegation battle which i don't think a lot of people are taking seriously at the moment because they might think we are too good to go down.

a very risky move by the board. hopefully it will work out from the teams point of view but i am furious that the board are gambling with our clubc future. if we do go down on the ron martins head be it.

i hope to see a lot more passion today from the players

The performance today will be a good indicator, as if we get another one like Wycombe, start looking for the map to Morecombe in my opinion....

No one thinks we're too good to go down. We're fortunate to have so many rubbish teams in this division and the fact that we only have to finish above four of them means that we're far from dead and buried.

Again, I don't think people realise just how close to going bust we could be.

It's far too early to say what we've gained - or lost - by selling Barney.

The guy has done brilliantly this season in scoring the goals but he has been a real sicknote for the rest of his time here. We have no guarantee that if we had kept him he'd have stayed fit and then would have left for nothing at the end of the season.

It's far too early to judge Spencer and Patterson and Vernon hasn't even played yet.

Let's just judge at the end of the season.

The other risk with Barnard is not that he would get injured, but that he would rein in his playing style so as to not pick up injuries. What's the point of slogging your guts out if you've already signed a pre-contract agreement to join another club in the summer?

Taking into consideration his contract situation I think it's a good deal for the club financially...but it would have been an even better deal had we 10 more points on the board.

i agree 10 more points would have a been a much better suitation to be in. my point is our 2nd top goal scorer is laurent with 3, macca's got a couple. moose 1, barrett 1, christophe 1, spencer 1 and that about it really. not enough goals to keep us up.

hopefully the loanees will help out but i'm very annoyed that we get money in for great players yet never replace them e.g spend that money earnt on getting a replacement.

Anyone who thought that the money for Barnard was ever going to be seen again are living in a fools paradise, gone into the big black hole of dept, which i think is a lot worse than anyone realises.

I said from the start that if we kept Barney, ok we lose £250 from not selling, BUT his goals would have kept us up.

We HAVE sold Barney, have £250k, probably won't be spent on a replacement. Looks more likely than not that relegation is in the air, we will lose a hell of a lot more than £250k if we do get relegated.

my point exactly. a massive gamble by the club and not everyone seems to realise it. whether we lost money for barny or not end of the day we only paid 25k for him end of. relegation will cost us loads of players and the club would struggle to survive financially.

We are struggling to survive financially now!

Ron obviously didn't want to lose him for nothing at the end of the season, and we're not really in a position to turn down 200/250K or whatever it was.
Quite right, and i never expected the money to be spent on a replacement, but nothing seems to get any better. A week after we get money for Barney, there rumours once again of players not being payed on time, although i have no idea if this is true. So what have we gained from selling Barnard, on the face of it totally nothing.

This is the point. The football is secondary now, it's the survival of the club which takes first palce.

We've been bailed out by Sainsbury's once this season. Clearly we are still unable to settle our PAYE liabilities as they fall due. The sale of Barnard has bought us time. How much? Only Ron knows, we can only keep our fingers crossed.

You are missing the point. Ron will lose much much more than £250 when the lack of Barney's goals gets us relegated. Gain £250k now and lose £2 million later. If you are happy with that scenario, you crack on

The football is crucial. We need to stay in L1 to survive. We get relegated this season, it's goodnight Vienna, there will be no club.

Erm, what are you talking about?

We've been relegated before. I'm pretty sure we'll play in the basement league again in the future, whether next year or not. Saying that it would be the end is just ridiculous.
