Roots Hall has not really had much atmosphere since the days when the North Bank was the home end. Large numbers go in the West to watch, have a good moan..but not get too vocal in support....it has always been the same.
In the old days, a large section of the North Bank was for those who wished to sing and the resulting atmosphere was much. much more daunting for the away side.
Still, we have what we have. So just keep supporting!
Absolutely this...............I only usually average 5-10 home games a season and mostly sit in the East Greens as I prefer the view. Vocal support has been in decline over the past 20 years and on saturday imho it was the poorest I have witnessed in years, if ever. Don't know what the answer is but an exciting and winning team might help !

Not the moaners at Roots Hall.....our atmosphere produced at Roots Hall is shambolic,

I try very hard to always be positive at matches even when I see some rubbish but lets be honest Saturdays game was very frustrating. The amount of mis-placed passes and shocking defending.

No ground in the country would be happy with that. If you think they would then that would be a lie.

Not denying that Saturday's second half was poor but some fans still get behind their team no matter what. In my comments, I was referring to Roots Hall in general, our atmosphere is non existent at times except for some moaning. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Hall rocking - hopefully a run of Friday night games help - we tend to play well on Friday's and the atmosphere is also usually better

If the club have their way the North will be for away support only, speaking to people in charge of stadium security on Saturday, opening it to both sets of supporters was more trouble than it was worth due to the actions of a few "supporters" last season.
We as fans need to have a co-ordinated effort, but it will have to be in the West I'm afraid unless the club have a massive change of heart and segregation is improved.

We've been talking about turning roots hall into a fortress for a while now, but lets be honest, we haven't really put our ideas to plan, I and many others would love to see roots hall rocking and opposing teams being afraid to come to the hall because of the atmosphere.
only a small percentage of southend fans are on shrimperzone, we need to tell everyone else what we've been trying to do, maybe hand out lyric sheets to a before the match song like liverpools "you'll never walk alone" but our own one, I found a brilliant one posted of the blue's voice song suggestion thread what definitely suits us!! We need to take action, we need as many people to hand lyric sheets out, only for one game, hoping fans sing along the next time the song is played before a game, I've been trying a while to improve the atmosphere At the hall, lets turn the hall into a fortress, it can easily be done!!!

I have to disagree with some of the above posts about the atmosphere. Saturday aside it has been a good one. Plenty of noise. Im not sure why this was not the case against morcombe. Maybe we all need to up our efforts as we did for the opening games. Come on we can help the team in a big way, let's get behind em

Saturday was total bollocks. It was a miracle players werent lynched at full time. I thought in general the crowd was very forgiving on Saturday. If that happens a few times again before Christmas, i cant see the crowd being as patient!

Saturday was indeed bad, but as bad as it gets we, collectively must up our efforts or our silence will have an effect on the players. I see a pattern each time we concede or go behind, it happened again Saturday as it happened at Wycombe and on many previous occasions, the Drum goes silent and everyone loses interest and silence ensues. I know this happens with other clubs but I dont care about other clubs, I care about SUFC. I am blaming no one in particular, but I dont want us to known as "you only sing when your winning" club, we need to support through thick and thin, and leave the criticism until we get home and sign in to the zone if you need to moan.
