Question What are you reading?

Bloody hope so. Just persevered again. The tiger's made a friendly noise.

Well, I finished it and I agree with you. Pretentious, post modern nonsense - and not particularly original either.

Just finished reading The Passage by Justin Cronin. It's the first major novel by the writer and the rights have been bought by Ridley Scott for a large sum. You can see why - it's a long dystopian, (fairly) literary take on the vampire legend. The descriptions make the vampires sound like a smaller version of Scott's Alien monsters. Apparently Stephen King loves it. It's a decent holiday read, at its best when it describes the post apocalyptic world. Quite a few scenes are shamelessly written for the cinema. Enjoyable though, and thought provoking at times.

I'll have a look out for it.

Tripwire. Ive read One Shot and Bad Luck and Trouble - only recently came across him, but it's fantastic stuff.

Jack Reacher vs Rambo. Who'd win?

Am reading The Cobra by Frederick Forsyth, and looking forward to the next installment of the Mongel series by Conn Iggulden.

Reacher. Big height advantage. Would be interested to see Robert B Parkers Spenser in the mix as well.

Just starting to read 'And The Hippos Were Boiled In Their Tanks' by W.S.Burroughs & Jack Kerouac. First book either author ever wrote, in 1944, looking forward to this!

Just finished up Changes by Jim Butcher last night. As it's book 12 in a (reportedly) 20 book long series (the other 7 should be published over the next 7 years), I won't try and explain much about the plot (it's complicated. Extremely).

However, the book itself has a remarkably simple plot when boiled down to its most simple terms. Harry hitherto hidden for her own safety daughter has been kidnapped. Harry wants her back.

In traditional Harry Dresden fashion, things go tits up from there. Epically.

A great book, can't wait for the next one. Or the look on my mother's face when she reads it.

Yep, she was most defintiely Not A Happy Bunny about that ending. But then, as far as I'm aware, most people weren't.

Just finished Introducing Wittgenstein(A Graphic Guide).Least I could do after popping into the house the great man designed in Vienna for his sister.Don't think I'll bother with the Tracatus though.

go on. its fun. and after that read some of Quine's work. very advanced semantic logic...

Just finishing Alone in Berlin, mentioned earlier in this thread by Barna Blue, recommended.

And for anyone who likes crime fiction I'd heartily recommend the Logan Macrea series by Stuart MacBride, a sort of Aberdonian Rebus with some real laugh out loud moments and some memorable characters.

Thought I might try Philosophical Investigations, at some point in the future, as it's supposed to be much easier to read.My last journeys into(political)philosophy were some time ago now.:cricko:

Finished reading Posy Simmon's graphic novel Tamara Drewe yesterday.I remember (a lot of)the cartoon strips from the Guardian circa 2005.An enjoyable read and there's a key difference between the plot in the novel(and the subsequent film)which I won't give away here.
Just occurs to me the last two books I've read are in cartoon form.Time to get the Marvel comics out perhaps(if only I still had them).Peter Parker rules!

Great read, isn't it?I'm sure it'll make a fantastic film too.
