...maybe not right this second but what's in your games system at the minute and what has been in it recently?

Thought it might be a good way to talk about/get opinions on a few games that wouldn't otherwise get their own thread.

I'm playing Aliens vs Predator on the PS3. I'd heard some disappointing stuff about it but HMV at Stansted didn't have either Red Dead Redemption or the GTA IV update and this was only £17 so I thought I'd give it a go. I've quite enjoyed it actually. Only played the Marine campaign so far but it's been very atmospheric. Really feels like you're in Aliens, which appeals to me as it's one of my favourite films. Graphically it isn't amazing and the Aliens are a little underpowered but I guess the Marines would get massacred otherwise.

Not run into a Predator yet. I think I'll play their campaign next.

Also, I finished MGS4 yesterday. Played that through several times and still love it.

**** all thanks to the YLOD,

However, it's been CoDMW2 since September. I can't see anything being better, but I suppose it all depends on your preference.

I remember seeing the AVP trailer and thinking it looked good, but it just wouldn't get played in the end.

I've still not played MW2 as my PS3 isn't online any more, for various reasons. I'm missing online gaming. Haven't played Warhawk since September. :(

MW2 is OK offline, but you need to play online to get the full experience. Then you just need to crack on untill you've got the hang of it. That's when you get hooked.

I picked up Transformers: War on Cybertron on Monday. Really enjoying it so far. Found the initial controls a bit awkwards as I kept Transforming every time I tried to melee attack someone but I switched to the alternative controls and not had any problems since.

I've only really played online so far (house-sitting for my parents so my PS3 is temporarily online) but the single player campaign looks good from what I've seen.

Soldiering on as SUFC in Football Manager on the iPhone. Good luck with that Paul...

Also downloaded Portal and Half Life 2 on the Mac. Completed the former which is easily one of the best games I've ever played, wonderful from start to finish. The sequel looks great too. But I'm saving HL2 for after I complete Mario Galaxy 2. Which is also brilliant. Loads better than the first and that one was up there with the greats for me.

So I picked up Killzone 3 and the Sharp Shooter attachment last week and got around to playing them yesterday (the Sharp Shooter was broken so I needed to take it back). It's a lot of fun (although actually starts to hurt your arm after half an hour or so) but I think it's going to take some time to get used to the controls. Using a gun to move, run, turn, look up/down, crouch, jump, use items, re-load and fire is pretty hard to master.

I'm still playing FIFA 11 most days. I also toyed with the idea of buying Tiger Woods 12 yesterday but didn't. I'll probably pick it up soon as I tend to get one of those games every three or four years or so.

Trying to get into Total War shogun 2 but it's first TW game that left me a bit underwhelmed.

Xbox 360:
John Madden NFL

C&C3:Kane's Wrath
Civ V
Minecraft

Been thinking about getting Shogun 2 but haven't played a TW game before, what are it's pros/cons?

Pros - huge depth. Great campaigns and the battles can be breathtaking
Cons - Dodgy AI sometimes.

Ive loved every one of them, the Empire Total War one in the Napoleonic era probably my favourite, although Rome was good but dated now.

Shogun 2 for me feels pretty weak, it looks great in the battles (although did make my i7 PC chug with high detail at one point) but the campaign map part of the game just isnt grabbing me this time like it normally does.

If anyone wants a 3 week trial for Eve-online then drop me a PM with your email address and I can refer you....

Mass Effect 2 (PS3) - Completed this a few weeks ago, great game. Can't wait for number 3 now which comes out in November. Although it comes out at the same time as Uncharted 3 which will give me a dilema!

Pro Evo 2011 - I've been an avid fan of Pro Evo since the early ISS games on the SNES. However, I got to say that Konami have yet to bring out a decent Pro Evo game for the PS3. Playing this version quite a bit, mostly due to the addictiveness of Master League, but the game still annoys the hell out of me!

I picked up Gran Turismo 5 at the weekend. Racing games aren't generally my cup of tea but I figured if something took five whole years to make it must be good, right?

Well anyway, it's awesome. I really wasn't expecting to be sucked into it the way I have been. I can't wait to get home tonight and play it. So much more addictive than I was expecting.

really?
i was massively disappointed by it, sure it plays ok, but for five years i expected a bit more... the premium cars look good, but the countless other cars all haven't changed from the last one :P yes the tracks are stunning, but when your racing round the nurnburgring in a lancia that has rectangular shadows and a worse resolution than a ps2 version it sort of takes the edge off
