Ah, good old BFBS. Used to listen to that a lot (due to limited choice) when I was living near Gibraltar. The John Peel Show every week was an oasis of brilliance in a desert of pish.

Do they still play "Mostly Military", the programme all about brass band music?

Nah, when the show is going out live, it's actually quite good, even though the time difference is funny. They're mainly based out of Bastion in Afghan, so where I am i get the 8am Breakfast show at 1am, and the show they do from here, for here aint bad either. For some reason, we dont get 24 hr BFBS, and Falklands radio cuts in, which is basically inbred music, and then a complete dullard reading **** out over the air. I think Dagenham Kev would be a better DJ...

Yo La Tengo - Leaving Home

I listened to them this morning on the way to work. Picked up 'I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One' on Amazon Marketplace so catching up on why so many people regard it as their best work.

Didn't love the newest record so much, but perhaps it's because it felt a bit like a best of their last 4? To me anyhow...

Been getting into Yo La Tengo alot in the last year or so, started with the best of 'Prisoners of Love'. The new album was odd, part college rock, part long post-rock songs. Just got 'They Shoot, We Score' which is a compilation of their film soundtrack work (only available from their website), mainly bought for the songs they did for Old Joy.

edit - also I bought **** Buttons Tarot Sport - very good.

Good work mate, I knew you would like it.

Yeah they're a band I've grown into loads too. I think it stems from seeing them in a tiny hall and being absolutely blown away by the opener off of 'I'm not afraid of you...' being extended into a 20 minute assault on my senses.

Anyway, back on topic: a podcast from FACT magazine's site by 2562.
