Wasn't the Kenickie drummer Lauren's brother?

Yes, Johnny X.

I remember reading about them in the page of the NME that covered unsigned bands and liking the sound of them just from that interview. They got a bit of play on Evening Session and I really fell in love with them. A fantastic POP act, should have been Top Of The Pops and CD-UK regulars really. Although an 'indie' band in some ways they had such a pop sensibility. I remember playing 'At The Club' to death when it came out.

Saw them live a few times and they never disappointed...one time they were low on the bill at one of the NME Brat Awards shows at London Astoria and I met Lauren and Johnny. I actually got a bit starstruck and blurted out a pathetic "I really love your band" (or something like that) to Lauren to which she smiled but moved on quite quickly. Johnny however stopped and had a chat and seemed a nice bloke.

Sorry but Kenickie were dreadful! Best thing they ever did was splitting up

Sorry, but you're wrong! The thing is for me music is about youth...either music from the past evoking youth or something modern making me feel young again. That is Kenickie in a nutshell for me.

You stick to MOR crap like Snow Patrol whilst sitting back in your rocking chair and I'll pogo around the room to Punka.

Bands that make me feel young are bands like The Stone Roses / Mondays / Nirvana

Kenickie where one of those bands that the NME lauded but had absolutely no substance IN MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!

I can assure you that I would not have been a genuinely passionate fan of a band which had no substance just because the NME said they were cool. I genuinely loved Kenickie (I'm sure one or two people who post on here and know me from back then could confirm that) and listening to them now (as I am as I type) I still feel excited by their music.

I agree totally with you about Roses/Mondays/Nirvana but music doesn't just have to be about serious young men with guitars. Sometimes some genuine pop girls who write catchy tunes hits the spot too!

Also in my opinion....as always happy to disagree on this. Sorry if that wasn't made clear, just that I am very passionate in my love for this band!

Got to agree about Kenickie, sorry MK!!!
I've got a similar story about meeting them one night pre gig - pub around the corner from the Cambridge Junction. The band were really friendly other than LL who had really terrible nerves (bordering on stage fright I'd say). Got them all to sign my "At The Club" cover and then had to endure the next 90 minutes of my mate saying "that bass player, she wants it", especially as she winked at him allegedly as they came on stage!

Ahem ... this thread is about what you are listening to, so shush up and get a bit of ..
