I thought so too Ed - had hoped that we'd have upwards of 9,000 there. Still, we won 3-1 and that's all that matters!

We had already sold 5,800 of those tickets before the game.

Perhaps the £1.50 on the day price hike is a turn-off then?

It does seem that way

Overall Southend were the better side, reflected in the way we took our chances. Guttridge was very impressive and the ball that picked out The Goat for our first was brilliant. Mitchell Coles' effort was pure opportunism and hopefully that will give him more confidence in the coming months.

Wayne Gray pulling up feeling his hammy was a worry, and demonstrates our lack of depth at striker, particularly in view of the Eastwood appeal debacle. Lawson showed some nice touches and looks like he will be one for the future, but he may benefit by going out on loan to a conference side perhaps.

After the first month of the season, we have not been thrashed by anyone, and we have overall held our own. Seeing Huddersfield on top and what may have been without Freddy's sending off also makes you wonder.

I think we will find ourselves safe in mid table at the end of the season.
