First XI
On a well-taken 3-1 win. My honest and hopefully objective opinion is that the scoreline was very harsh on us. We had a lot of the pressure first half and let in two breakaway goals which were both very well taken by Goater and Cole. Goater in particular was under extreme pressure from Chilvers but held him off to get his shot away. The equaliser in between was no more than we deserved, but your second goal knocked the stuffing out of us a bit I think.

We weren't much cop in the second half until the changes were made. I felt we had a very serious shout for a penalty, especially when Iwelumo went down, and a second later Williams skimmed the top of the bar. Could have been 2-2 then and I would have taken that as a fair reflection. Wasn't to be though and you scored what looked like a pretty jammy third.

Some of your boys have been on our board saying we didn't make any noise, I have to say that is 100% b0ll0cks, we made loads and the atmosphere in the away end was great, especially first half. What you hear can depend on acoustics and whether you're in a noisy part of the home end. You may also poke fun at our travelling support, but at the end of the day, in percentage terms half our home crowd going to an away game isn't bad!!

I thought the referee was rubbish, we felt he was giving us very little but even if he had I think he was just having a general stinker. He seemed to single out Halford early on for no particular reason and booked him, although maybe he booked him for having a crap game. He also gave a free kick against Izzet for an excellent clean tackle in the middle.

So overall I don't think we deserved what we got, but you did what we are currently not very good at doing, and took your chances. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Was that the bus which pulled up in Southend High's car park?

Haven't heard any mention of it!

Some of our fans have been known to travel to matches recently in a limo... not a bad way to do it, but often means you get too p1ssed to remember the game.

I honestly thought your fans made a decent amount of noise. I also thought though that due to some of the football we played that we did deserve that result.

Didn't think much of Styles either but Halford had it coming really. He made some very dubious decisions and I did feel sure you were going to get a pen in the second half for what looked like some shirt tugging but luckily we got away with it.

Seriously, I thought the game looked pretty even in the first half, but we just about shaded it in the second. I didn't hear much from you guys but I wasn't really in a position to comment as the north end of the west gets really noisy when the fans are in full flow.

See ya at Layer Road next year!

I was disappointed that none of the chants which everyone came up with a couple of weeks ago weren't sung.

The first 10 mins we came out storming even straight from kick off and deserved our goal, a superb left foot half volley from The Goat, Then after the goal we were under alot of pressure and you had most of the play and deservedly got the equaliser. After that goal went in the sides were pretty much even and thanks to a quick break and qulaity finish from Mitch we went in 2-1 up at half time. Must admit at half time I was slightly worried that you would come out all guns blazing and get back into the game quickly, but gladly for us you didnt seem as sharp in the second half. I think we contolled the second half apart from a 5/10 min spell where you had alot of the ball and hit the bar. After our third from The Goat we kept the ball easily and were basically taking the pi$$ (

) and could have had at least one more with a shot from Benno which shaved the post. But to be fair you didnt really have any time to get back into the game and were pushing forward which left you vulnerable at the back. Your support was slightly dissapointing in numbers, BUT, not taking the mick here, just saying that I suppose its not bad when you consider your home attendences. Quite noisy at times, quiet at others but apart from the equaliser didnt have much to shout about so cant really have a dig about that one.

In all honesty, we were superb today, and i dont give a flying fig if we hadn't been either. We won 3-1 and took the pi$$ outta COl Ewe all day. Great result and shoved them back where they belong......the relegation zone! HA HA HA!!!!

Personally I thought we played much the better football passing-wise and deserved the win, enough said really.

FEED THE GOAT!!

I can confirm that they brought two doubledeckers, one red and one blue. Anyone who's been in the North Bank knows that the barrel roof makes you think you make alot of noise.

I thought Col U were committed but looked like a League 2 team. Credit to their fans for being so loyal, the ones I walked past seemed OK.

I spent all day at the zoo yesterday but still did not see a single Col U fan.

I think Mr. Stockley will have to be very careful.

Finally, what a great atmosphere!

I thought Col Ewe looked excellent on the counter attack, until the ball reached the front line. I also thought they had a decent shout for a penalty. At times we were on top, at times they were but I think we were more than worthy winners.

Gutts M-o-M by miles. I don't know who said Barrett was the pick of our back four. Sooner or later he is going to come a cropper again with some of those antics. A quiet but efficient day for Captain Fantastic but when it really mattered in the last 15 minutes Kev seemed to be everywhere. Great games for Gower, Goater and Gray, together with Darryl and (cough, splutter) Che - my pick of the back four.

I saw three Col U double deckers going along the A127, two blue and one red. Gotta say, and it pains me, that the Col U supporters I met were decent and commited supporters who shun the lure of Ips%&t, as real and as far away from glory hunting Man U wearing fickle supporetrs which I truly despise.

.....But we still are home to the king of Essex and we still are the only team in Essex !

I thought it was a game that would have been more at home in division 4 than division 3. Col******r looked to me to be poor and on the evidence of Monday I expect them to be playing back in division 4 next season. They looked very poor defensively (to get caught out once by a long pass through the middle would be bad enough, but their centre backs were repeatedly caught out) and going forward when trying to play football and not hoofing the ball they inexplicably passed the ball into touch on a number of occasions.

That was probably also our poorest display of the season (didn't go to Scunny). We struggled to move the ball as well as we have done in recent weeks and our more attacking midfield struggled to get a grip on the game at the breakdown. The first half was crying out for a Pettefer or Bentley to get amongst the Col******r midfield and win the secondary ball.

Cole took his goal very well, but offered little else and having him, Gower and Guttridge in midfield looks like a luxury that will be punished by better teams. Guttridge and Maher both individually had good games, but I felt without Pettefer's industry it didn't work as a combination. Repeatedly Col******r were able to break and their midfield runners were able to run direct at our defence. We got away with it but will get punished by better teams.

So not particularly happy with the performance but we did enough to deservedly ensure bragging rights once more.

ps Halford's booking was for continual foul play (and the ref made this clear by pointing at various spots where he'd fouled previously) and whilst i thought the actual challenge he got booked for was innocous, he was lucky not to have been booked for the previous free-kick.

7,344, slightly disappointing.

I must admit going in 2-1 up at half time did flatter us a bit after Col Ewe had dominated possession for long periods.

But second half we took charge and deservedly sealed win.

Still think we can play better and improve on yesterday's performance.

thanks mate - oh thats a decent enough showing we seem to have acquired another 1,000+ fans since reaching the ldv final twice and winning promotion.

happy days for us seaside boys

I don't think either team played very well. Both teams gave it away far too much, but we did take more of our chances and on that basis deserved to win the game. Apart from that, I thought we were lucky to be going in not losing, let alone being ahead. We gave them too much space behind their front 2 which led to all sorts of marking problems, especially in the first half, at the back, hence the shambles that led to their goal. Their front 2 made some good runs but control was fortunately woeful.

Col U's following were quite impressive I thought, taking into account the fact that it was probably about half their home crow who turned up (it's a shame that Layer Road isn't big enough for us to return that compliment
laugh.gif
), and that they were behind for 90% of the game.

Didn't think Goater's second was jammy - he tried to do exactly the same first time chip in the first half, but it didn't come off. The run he made for the second goal was absolute class - if we can continue to pick them out, he'll score a hatful this year. What a cracking individual goal from Cole, but thought he was off the pace physically and tactically for the whole game.

Hope Gray is not too badly injured, because Goater is still not really fit enough for a full 90. Lawson looked quite interesting but evidently highly inexperienced. That said, it'd be worth giving him a few 15-20 minute bursts like he got on Monday - his imagination on the ball is quite exciting - his first time volley which didn't come off would have been very special indeed.

Might even beat Oldham on Sunday, too!

I thought so too Ed - had hoped that we'd have upwards of 9,000 there. Still, we won 3-1 and that's all that matters!
