Question Wedding hymms needed.

DTS

The Business
Help !!!!!!!!!!

Forgot all about it but Mrs DtS and I are meeting the vicar tonight to discuss our pending summer wedding.

The vicar asked us to think of two or three hymms that we want sung at the wedding. Mrs DtS in turn passed this duty to me.

The only god I pray to is that of Freddy Eastwood and I havent got a clue. Can someone give me a few pointers.

I've been thinking about this as well... I quite like Be Thou my Vision and Amazing Grace. Love Divine is one that gets sung a lot

The only reason I got married in a church is because it's what the missus wanted. I therefore absolved myself of all responsibility of that part of the day to her and just went along with whatever she wanted. I really could not tell you what hymns we had, I genuinely can't remember.

However I put a a lot of time and effort into the list of songs for the DJ to play in the evening!

When the subject of hymns comes up slip a £20 note into the vicars breast pocket, pat it and ask him to 'pick us out a couple of nice ones'.

If you are also going to ask him to keep the ceremony brief so you can hit the bar early then it is probably best to make it the fifty touch.

Amongst others, we had this, always liked the words - Lord of all Hopefulness

Lyrics:
1. Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever child-like, no cares could destroy,
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.
2. Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
Be there at our labours, and give us, we pray,
Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.
3. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
Your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,
Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,
Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.
4. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.

If you want to be less traditional you can always go for some pop music. There's a great song by the band Puddle of Mud that I think was written for just these occasions. It's called "She ****in' hates me"!

Dave, we went for:

One more step along the world I go

The Lord is my Shepherd

Lord of the Dance

Two quite lively ones with tunes that are familiar to most people and one more gentle one that most people know. It's important not to have ones that nobody will know as it sounds a bit bad if the only people singing are the vicar and Auntie Mavis.

Plus two of those have been widely used as football chants, so you can make up your own lyrics at the altar.

How about some Country and Western?

Get Your Biscuits In The Oven, And Your Buns In The Bed

I’d Rather Pass a Kidney Stone than Another Night With You

If I’d Killed You When I Wanted To, I’d be Out of Jail By Now

and more ideas:

I Hate Every Bone In Her Body But Mine.
I Ain't Never Gone To Bed With An Ugly Woman But I Woke Up With a Few
I've Missed You, But My Aim's improvin'.
Wouldn't Take Her To A Dogfight 'Cause I'm Scared She'd Win.
I'm So Miserable Without You..... It's Like You're Still Here.
My Wife Ran Off With My Best Friend And I Miss Him.
She Took My Ring and Gave Me the Finger.
She's Lookin' Better with Every Beer.
It's Hard To Kiss The Lips At Night That Chewed My *** All Day.

We had those last two as well, three with the word "Lord" in! Incidentally, we always sing "One More Step" in school as the top year group leaves - always has the parents (and staff!) in floods of tears!

"The Lord is my Shepherd", while a classic tune is more of a funeral song isn't it?

I reckon you up the tempo, drop the bass with a little bit of "Kum by Yah." Chris Powell would be well pleased.

Kumbaya My Lord Kumbaya

Excellent choice Jon, we had that at our wedding plus Jerusalem which was chosen by myself to **** of the Scottish contingent.

we had Jerusalem and Be Thou My Vision

there are so many lovely ones to choose, a lot of my friends have chosen the most popular ones: All things Bright and Beautiful, Love Divine All Love Excelling, Lord of the Dance and Make me a Channel of your peace

Im sure whatever you choose will be great

We kicked off with All Things Bright and Beautiful, followed by Lord and Father of our time and encored with Jerusalem.

Can't beat Jerusalem to get everyone singing!
