Official Match Thread Waltham Abbey v Southend United U23's Essex Senior Cup 4th Round

Renei Batlokwa has come on from Harry Phillips and Emile Acquah has replaced Norman Wabo in the last few moments.

GOAL: Waltham Abbey 2-5 SOUTHEND UNITED - Hutchinson (89')

Eren Kinali held off a defender before laying the ball off to Hutchinson and he sent the ball through the hands of Johnson from around twelve yards out.

Same score as the last game and we were 2-0 behind in that one as well.

FULL-TIME: Waltham Abbey 2-5 Southend United U23's (Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round). Isaac Hutchinson scores four and Amadou Ba the other goal as Blues win 5-2 away in the Essex Senior Cup for the second stage in succession.

Yet another comeback win! Well done lads we are going to win the cup!

Our 1st team really needs to take a look at the work rate of our kids in the 2nd half.

Good win, and Hutchinson must be in with a shout of the 1st team. Yeah, it’s only the ESC but he’s a bit special this lad.

He couldn’t have done any more to get the managers attention - well done lad!

Quite a different second half!

It may be conditions (wind was with us again second half) it may he adjusting to pitch / surroundings or it may be a a little fitness - probably a combination of all three....

But they do have a habit of starting slow and getting better! As the rounds progress or the levels they play at get higher they won’t be able to afford to do that though.....

Ba impressed me again today. Selfless running. Wabo looked to be trying too hard. I thought the right back was excellent all game too (Dan Humphries) tenacious and delivered some good crosses and won his battles....which is what’s needed in these games against adults. Erin Kinali has also hit some form and really gave his full back a tough evening. Hutchinson will get the headlines and rightly so after the second half but there must be context again and this is a world away from league 1 football...

Hope we get someone like Chelmsford or East Thurrock in the next round. Decent Conference South teams would be a bigger test for the team. Wonder if we get Braintree in the next round if Wabo would be with us or them.

Well he's not starting games for them. 5 minutes as sub here and there. Might as well start for us.

They play Chelmsford City on Monday and with a game on Saturday, they might give him a start then.

Anyone know how we lined up? From the teamsheet looks like Klass started as a defender and subbed at HT for an actual defender.

Pianim and Knock are centre-halves aren’t they? It’s not unusual for 4 to be a centre-mid (you might be too young to remember before squad numbers).

Some might say this is different to League 1 level but what are Theo and Shawn doing ? He can't do any worse so worth a go in my opinion:Worthy:

ISAAC Hutchinson is hoping his four goals in Southend United’s Essex Senior Cup win at Waltham Abbey can propel him back into the Shrimpers’ first team squad.
