DoDTS

The PL League Boss⭐⭐🦐
Weve been playing Walsall since 1927 and visted Walsall nearly 40 times. So have you been? any memories?

I did go to Walsall in 1975 but to see Millwall, my first Southend match there was in 1990. It was a low point in my life with a marriage breakdown in full swing the future very uncertain and in these grim times there is always one friend you can rely on and turn to, yes Southend United. It was a Tuesday night match in the second round of the LDV.

We were living in Leicester at the time and the journey shoud be quite straight forward an hour to Birmingham then about 20 minutes to Bescott. I picked the young DTS up from School the journey was sraight forward as we arrived at the old Fellows Park. It was dismal on and off the pitch, in heavy rain we lost 4-1 with little to cheer us. We arrived back in Birmingham to find we had missed the last train to Leicester, but we could get a train to Coventry and then on to Leicester. I have never known slower trains we pulled into Leicester at about 1.50 a.m. Shocking night one when you realised you shouldnt have gone.

I have also been to the following games at the Bescot Stadium:

1997-98 Walsall 3-1 Southend
2005-06 Walsall 2-2 Southend
2007-08 Walsall 0-2 Southend
2008-09 Walsall 5-2 Southend
2009-10 Walsall 2-2 Southend

So what are your memories?

Yes, went in 08/09, sat next to Yorkshire Blue and watched us get tonked 5-2. Don't remember much else about the day.
Yeah that was the last time I went. I remember wearing flip flops, so must have been summer. That's all I remember don't remember any of the goals or game!

I was there for the 2-2 draw and went home happy that we had an away point from an early season game. If only I had known what a disastrous season was ahead of us!

I went, I think did not Ishmael DeMontagnac have a worldy and score 3 or 4 goals for them. I remember Lee Barnard got a late consolation for us. Remember coming out shell-shocked as expected to get something from the game and Walsall produced their performance of the season.

Can't remember that, but I was breaking up with my ex at the time and we had a huge argument so I jumped in the car and buggered off.

30th August, so still summer.

I went in 97-98 when Roger Boli destroyed an early Alivin Martin team with a hatrick....including a worldy of an overhead kick. If memory serves, we had George Paris playing for us that day!!

Went for a 2-2 draw (I think) early in 2005/06 when the Goat came off the bench to score his first goal for us. Also saw us win there 2-0 in 2007/08, Clarke (P) and Clarke (L) on target IIRC. Both times enjoyed a few beers in Birmingham before heading straight to the Bescot, so have never been to the town centre.

Yep, was at that one too, nearly dropped my magnificent Balti pie in awe when Boli scored that stunner.....

Twice and won both times :

1981-82 .. 1-0 - First game of the season

Remember one fella (wish I could remember his name) who spent the entire match asleep on the terraces.

Moody with a header was the only goal of the game.

1982-83 .. 3-1

A fine performance, just after we had won 1-0 away at Sheffield United and 2-0 at Bournemouth in the FA Cup

Been quite a few times to walsall.Always go to Mad O'Rourkes Pie Factory in Tipton either before or after.A really novel place with great food.

I reckon we win , all the pressure is on them now , we just go out play our pretty football and Bang home 3.0 away win to the Mighty Shrimpers :thumbsup:

I went there in '45. God that place was a mess. Ruins everywhere.

Oh you mean this one:

Sat. 8th December 1945 3rd Div South (Northern)
WALSALL 6-0 SOUTHEND UNITED

Fellows Park in pre war was a very profitable place for the United, indeed they had the best record of any third division club, but on this occasion they found it hard going. The Blues were a weakened team and Walsall were keen to make amends to the supporters for their early exit from the Cup. In the event Walsall triumphed by six clear goals which more or less represented the run of the play. The hard worked defence however was not overran until the last fifteen minutes when the score was doubled, but there trouble stemmed from not being able to cope with the Walsall wingers. Walsall’s first two goals were scored in the 37th and 42nd minutes and the third a quarter of an hour after the interval. Then in the last fifteen minutes the continual pressure took its toll and a hattrick was scored by a former full back now being tried at centre forward.
Team: Conway; Humphries & Bell; Goodyear, Jones & Leighton; Briscoe, Lane, Gardiner, Jenkins & Peters.

I've got to say Naps you look good(ish) for your age!

I was at the first one you mentioned. Wasn't it Ginger Lee's mate asleep? Remember marching into their end and being marched straight back out by the police. Tipped down with rain as well as I recall. One lad got slung out and spent tbe rest of the afternoon being chased by some of the locals and the coach driver wouldn't let him on to hide.

I was at that one. I recall being awake tho. Away following at the time wasn't huge so the other one there must have been the sleeping beauty
