Walker bashing

fredheim_holm

Where art thou Tes 🦐
Some Southend fans are an utter disgrace, you could tell they almost enjoyed Walker missing today. They just love a scapegoat.

People like that are just as scummy as any West Ham fan.

Idiots.

very poor strike.

It was possibly the worst penalty attempt I've ever seen at Roots Hall so people will make him the scapegoat. As soon as he missed the kids behind me in the Family Stand were on his back, telling him to get out of the club etc etc. Pointless. You don't kick your own players when they are down.

The thing they forget, of course, he was only on for 20 minutes. So he can't be blamed for the equally abysmal first 70 minutes.

Collectively, we were poor today. No one really stands out as having a good game so they must all bear the burden of responsibility for one of the most inept displays we'll see all year (he says hopefully).

Oh come off it. Nobody except the huddersfield fans enjoyed watching him pass the ball from the penalty spot back to thier keeper but i reckon an awful lot of people guessed it might happen that way. In a wierd way it tempered the dissapointment. More importantly, I and those around me couldnt understand why freedman had the ball taken from him when it seemed apparent he was going to take it? A recognised experienced scorer gave way to a banjo/barn door specialist. Odd

Gotta be honest, I left way before the penalty was awarded.

But it sounds like it was a poorly struck penalty but who can blame the guy? He's the only striker who has been scoring properly recently, so although he was a sub - it was maybe the right choice - looking at the bigger picture.

Yeh, he missed and yeh we lost - a shocking performance - but slating the bloke even further is not going to help his confidence. We lose as a team and accept defeat as a team - but we do not single out single people and kill-off their confidence. Or in some of your cases, you do.

He may have missed the penalty which ultimately cost us the game, but whilst he continues to pull on a Southend United shirt, I will be supporting him - even if he isn't the most gifted player.

The senior more experienced striker should have taken it without a doubt, I can't see how Walker was allowed to take it. Should Barrett have stepped in and made the decision or was it Tilson's decision?

Does anyone else see the irony in the two bits bolded?

I didn't think the penalty was that bad. Bottom corner. People love a scapegoat so let them have their early Christmas present I guess. Enjoy.

What I dont understand is why Freedman took the ball from Stanislas as if to say 'this is mine', and then when I looked up Walker was lining the ball up .. Very poor decision for him to take it, I said he would miss and if I could of put a fiver on that, I would've.

It'll be interesting to hear what Tilson has to say. Stanislas was keen to take the kick and started walking to the spot. Freedman had a long conversation with him before taking the ball. Walker then ended up with the ball before passing it to the keeper who had clearly won the mental battle before the kick.

I seem to recall from the last time we had a penalty something about penalty takers being chosen before the game. If that's the case then, whatever happened today, Jimmy's probably one of the better takers in training. Shocking penalty at the end of the day, but if the keeper had dived the other way we'd be saluting it as beautifully placed.

Such is football.

You don't have to blast the ball to take a good penalty, Wayne Gray was the prime example of this - his penalties always seemed to barely trickle in but he seemed to be able to wait for the keeper to commit to going one way. Walker's penalty was so poorly struck that the Terriers' keeper could have dived the wrong way and still had time to get up and collect it from the other side of the net.

Wasn't that bad of a penalty, couldnt work out why he was taking it when we have one of the most experienced strikers in the division on the pitch.

People who were booing him are just idiots and aren't worth bothering with.
