W.Indies v England Fifty50

number11

"Good morning everybody........"
Don't know if anyone is paying much attention to this increasingly irrelevant format, but England won the toss and elected to bat. One-Day star Strauss opened and is out for 15 as we are 38/1 of 8 overs, Ravi and KP in so far.

Im not convinced we know how to set a total and therefore usually prefer us chasing. Prior is back in but has dropped down the order, I guess to give us better hitting options at the death than Strauss would. Harmy has a recall, and we have again gone with the nonsensical choice of Batty as the spinner, despite Rashid being in the original party. He must have been bowling tripe in the nets if they deem Batty to be a better option.

On other matters, loving McGains first go at being a test match bowler for the aussies - BE McGain 10.0 2 93 0. Nice economy of over 9 runs.

Well both Bopara and Shah are pretty good OD players so if they can hang around then maybe but if we lose a couple of quick wickets then we're in huge trouble!

I see McGain was given another over by Australia before the close, which went for 9 (thus reducing his economy rate slightly). Final figures, 11 overs 2 maidens, 0 wickets, 102 runs!! Awesome!

Unfortunately I guess we wont be seeing him in England this summer. Memo to groundsman, can we please have some complete bunsens to play on this summer.

I think Twenty20 is more irrelevant. It's the Daily Star of cricket, good for a bit of fun, but no substance at all.

Oh don't get me wrong, Im not a big fan of twenty20 at International Level, as think it is all just a bit random and guileless. Unfortunately though the way England play 50 over stuff is not exactly inspiring and generally I think the format falls into a bit of a black hole between the proper stuff (test cricket) and the money making twenty20.

Is anyone watching the game tonight? A superb game thats now suddenly become some what irrelevant. For those that aren't in the know England scored 270-7 and West Indies chasing down this and got to 244-7 when the light deterioted the West Indies believed that they have won on DL but nobody actually knows if they need 244 or 245. England have actually won but its taken 10 minutes of everyone in the ground actually not knowing. Absolute confusion! This game is fast becoming a joke, i can't believe the people running this game are getting away with murder at the moment. Unless it improves soon i think people will start giving up. Farce!

I do not believe what I've seen (and no, not Harmy's dropped catch).

West Indies have taken the light when behind on the Duckworth Lewis method! :stunned:

I suggest Chris Gayle or John Dyson bring along a calculator or at least learn to use one.

England win a cricket match. But what an utter farce at the end why on earth the WIndies didnt try and play to a finish is beyond me. Dyson is being considered as the next England coach, don't make me laugh he can't read a sheet of ****ing paper.

Absolute genius :D

Not laughed so hard in a long while. Justice, as going off to ruin a tight finish is anti-sport.

In the wake of a humiliating defeat to England, the West Indies appoint a new coach .....

Dyson has now won more games for England this winter than Andy Flower has.....

Great viewing!! I was on the phone with the sound off & couldn't work out what was happening as Sky knew what was happening & they usually know F A about the laws! Superb!!

As was said by Bumble (I think) its a victory for teams wanting to win by other means than scoring more runs! He mentioned the Semi Final game that finished at 9.10PM in semi-darkness. England didn't go off against Pakistan to win & they got the credit for doing that. The Windies got what they deserved for spoiling a great finish!

I have one thing to say to Dyson. SUCKER!!!!!!

I'll get my coat!!

I think the outcome was a get out of jail card for Harmison, he was having a shocker!

Maybe so, I'm always surprised when he plays ODI's. If he is at his best, which hasn't been for a while, then yes, but he's average in the county one dayers!

That said, England deserved to win, because the Windies wanted to take the easy way out & win it the correct way. They knew another wicket would finish them off. As it was, England after that Broad over had their tails up & would have finished the job off. Its all ifs & buts, but the Windies deprived us of that pleasure & a great finish!
