Exactly. I tell you what else I'd do - I'd restrict new car sales to those with no points, and ensure all cars have airbags fitted or no MOT!

Plus, I'd fine any pubs with carparks, and make taxis free for clubbers after

i concur with your car park scheme which to me sounds a complete winner.

I drive and I'm not insured.
If I drunkenly plough through a group of sweet old biddies/ nuns/ orphans etc, I simply ditch the car and burn it. I've invariably stolen it anyway, so I'll not get caught.

IMO it's quite simple there should be a catch all for all motoring offences, this being the death penalty.

If someone double parks, speeds, uses a mobile, uninsured, blah, blah, hang 'em you won't catch the ****ers doing it again.

I find the 'Careful - I drive as badly as U' sign that one of my neighbours has in their rear window to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

But it wouldn't. They would just carry on. If you're illegal, you're illegal, you can't be banned twice so you might as well carry on.

I'm not sure you'd need to be thrown in jail too many times for increasing periods before you learned your lesson.

If my solution sounds a bit extreme, well maybe it is. The bottom line is that the number of vehicles on our streets must decrease. The government thinks it should be done by targeting the poor, I think it should be done by taking lawbreakers off of the road, toughening the driving test significantly, and introducing periodic retesting.
