oh Tom Allen is awfulKatharine Ryan Tom Allen Rosie Jones
Had to endure Jones warm up act for Josh Widdecombe at the Cliffs Pavilion , painful to endure & not remotely funny.Rosie Jones
Always feel there’s more then meets the eye with RR, ex teacher with an attitude and most of all not very funny imo.I'm surprised no-one has brought up Rob Beckett and probably my number one most hated 'comedian' of current times Romesh Rangalangadingdong or whatever his name is.
IMO one of the most recent & blatant examples of box ticking if ever there was one. The fact that he's everywhere makes me hate him even more. Surely he's now past his sell by date?
I don’t think Eddie is a drag act, I think he’s an everyday bloke and tart.Saw Eddie Izzard live here a few years ago and thought he was excellent. What is it you don't like about him? The fact that he does his act in drag or his left-wing views?
What like Col ewe?Over the years I’ve seen almost all of the comedians mentioned here live (at least the ones under retirement age) and even if they weren’t necessarily my style of comedy they were almost without fail several rungs above the other comedians on the bill. And those other comedians on the bill were getting laughs (just not as big).
Comedy is like football: it’s much better live and in the moment. Stop watching panel shows on TV and get yourself down to your local comedy club.
Are you trying to tell me you wouldn’t laugh if they were relegated? What like Col ewe?
I get the impression that many more people are laughing at Eddie Izzard pretending to be a woman or a politician than ever did when he was pretending to be a comedian.Saw Eddie Izzard live here a few years ago and thought he was excellent. What is it you don't like about him? This is a good post IMO. There are lots of comedians I think are hit and miss, a lot of them mentioned here! In the most part I can think of some of their material that makes me laugh.Over the years I’ve seen almost all of the comedians mentioned here live (at least the ones under retirement age) and even if they weren’t necessarily my style of comedy they were almost without fail several rungs above the other comedians on the bill. Dunno about that (saw him just before his South American tour (when he was actively learning Spanish but FWIW my wife and I found his comic/political sketches very funny indeed.I get the impression that many more people are laughing at Eddie Izzard pretending to be a woman or a politician than ever did when he was pretending to be a comedian.
He may be but he certainly wears a dress to do his act.I don’t think Eddie is a drag act, I think he’s an everyday bloke and tart.
Can't say I care for most of the comedians you mention apart from EI.Wow, can't believe some of those being mentioned! Seen Rob Beckett and Sarah Millican recently at the Cliffs and found them both very funny, I realise Sarah is an acquired taste, but she hits the mark so accurately so frequently that I think she's really very funny. Enjoyed Rob Beckett too.
Feel sorry for Rosie Jones in a way, she's clearly a clever woman (and she was great acting in Call the Midwife recently too) but her delivery is always going to annoy some people (hubby included on that).
For me, it's some of those who've been around a while. Ben Elton I have never found funny, although I admire his writing for others. Harry Enfield can be both funny and not. Can't abide Russell Brand or Eddie Izzard (and never could, @Tangled up in Blue, before you try and suggest it's because of his current persona). I like Jimmy Carr on 9 out of 10 cats but not as a stand up, and prefer Alan Carr as a stand up rather than a host.
Rosie Jones takes a bit of time to get use to her cadence. First time I saw her it was a bit of a struggle and it was only towards the end of her (short) set I was in step with it. Subsequent times it’s been quicker to adjust. She has absolutely killer comedy timing once you get use to that cadence. This is a good post IMO. I've seen people live that I haven't been keen on from their TV appearances and enjoyed.
The one exception i'll make on this list is Rosie Jones, and I do feel bad singling her out. So much of comedy is timing and delivery and because of her disability you are waiting so long for a punchline and sometimes can't understand it. She may be a funny person with good material, perhaps writing would be a better fit if that is the case.
