Two "yobs" banned

In case people fail to realise, it was the Magistrate not the Police Officer that dished out the punishment.....

Correct but the police are the ones who applied to the court for a banning order to be granted.........i suppose the lad who got 3 yrs was goading himself.......
no gillingham fans charged?

Opposite platforms at Prittlewell station?

Who walks to Prittlewell to get a train into Southend. By the time you've got to the Station and waited for the train you could already be in the centre of Southend.

I actually witnessed this after the game. Basically the Gillingham fans were on the London side generally standing at the way in trying to intimidate everyone coming through. Then for later drinking purposes they decided to get a later train and walked off round to the other platform. And then for some reason they started a slanging match across the platform as they were walking off. And I could have sworn it was a Gillingham fan that got jumped on by a police dog not one of these two. But maybe I got it mixed up.

Anyway, they did barely anything wrong apart from possibly insinuate that there'd be trouble for the FA Cup game or some ********. It's just the police were there watching over everything. There was no violence whatsoever, ludicrous.

Good to see the police's resourses weren't wasted and they were able to arrest and charge 2 yobs for the very serious offence of shouting abuse.

Its a shame the police didn't use the same resourses for a few hours later outside TALK around 3am where you would have seen far worse trouble than you ever see at a Southen United football ame.

Tonight after the game, i was goaded and verbally abused by some Mk supporters, of course some Southend supporters gave it back, it went on for a good 5 minutes, 4 coppers stood there listening to it, when it finished the coppers were laughing as much as we were. Have come out of the pub after having a drink with the same MK supporters, it was great. Where is the problem with the verbal abuse? where is the problem with football banter? The way these lads have been treated i think is very harsh. Maybe we should all start taking our knitting to matches instead of our scarves, hey, maybe if we did we could knit ourselves a scarf. UTB Great result tonight.

Right my take...

I know both all be it Skinny as a friend where as the other lad just through friends.

I saw the whole incident at Prittlewell station as for once I went by train. Gillingham had a mob of about twenty lads all of which were complete nothings. I would have fancied my chances against any of them.

The younger lad in question and two mates came down the steps on the Southend platform of the road and a few verbals were exchanged. A few of the Gills firm tried to cross the platform and were held back by the plod.

A beer can was thrown from the Gills lot and missed the three Southend lads. One of the Southend lads picked up a can and threw it back hitting one of the Gills fans in the legs. Not the lad that was banned I would add.

A few verbals exchnaged and that was it. The lad that got the three year ban was then bitten on the jumper by the police dog on that side and got ruffed up by a copper.

How the **** that warrants a three year ban I will never know. Secondly if the Southend lad got done for verbals then I could have offered you 15 odd gills fans that did the same thing. If I was him i would feel hard done by.

Having verbals is part and parcel of football. I shouted a lot worse things tonight at the ref than the young lad did at the Gills lot. Police bollocks as always picking on easy targets.

Southend must be one of the only clubs that the home fans are treated like dirt by police and stewards. About 15 Gills fans started on 3 Southend fans, they respond and 2 get done and nothing happens with the Gills fans.

Every Southend fan that runs on the pitch gets dragged away and banned. About 16 Leicester fans run on at various times during the match and only 2 get escorted down the tunnel.

Try and stand up for more than a minute during play, or abuse opposing fans too much and see what happens. Yet we have to take what is shouted or thrown at us. Some of the away contingent stand up all game and nothing is said. Sometimes the whole lot stand all game, Millwall, Leeds, Leicester and once Orient.

I know this only too well - although I never got a ban just a fine think I was 16 at the time

Fair comment & it would appear that the bans are OTT, especially if it had happened at the ground. I don't recall the SUFC involved in the "fun & games" against Leicester were treated the same way.

However, if you behave in public in an anti-social way, however trivial or minor it may seem, don't whinge when you get nicked. Yes, its unfair that the Gillingham fans got away with throwing a beer can (a far more serious offence) but as we learn from school, the easiest targets are always picked on.

DTS, as a witness, maybe you should write to the Courts on their behalf. It might be too late, but worth a try.

The message Plod are sending out is, "act like idiot & we will jump all over you!"

As I posted on the Echo site, how many people get banned from Southend High Street for 3 years for hurling abuse on a drunken Friday or Saturday night ? Not many I think.

...but as stated many times, football fans are thought of lowlife working class scum. 99.9% of fans aren't, but its the 0.1% or the Millwalls & Leicester "firms" continuance in acting like scum that people will be treated the same way.

BTW, people do get banned for life from places like Mayhem or Talk, depending if your misbehaviour warrants such action. Not quite the same as the High Street scenario, but in open public places, where can they be banned from?!

The poor lad prob agreed with the charge ok I was abit mouthy etc etc and was expecting the £75 charge THEN the Police pop up and request a banning order... the Magistrate is a upper class posh who lives in the country never been to a football match....and see anyone who goes to football as a knuckle tragging thug

Its is coming a Joke and all down to statistics it costs a lot of money to police football games and they have to justify the big budget only by nicking these poor kids

Not to mention the lad in question had no previous offences and if this happend in town a caution would have been the most probable outcome....due to wanting the banning order the young lad gets charged and criminal record.

Cant some one else buy his tickets for him in a diff part of the ground.. Ok he shouldnt have to do this but he will still get into the game.. I know we have 23 rd century turnstiles but surely not face recognition technology just yet..

Also if this was at the station how comes he is banned from watching football - no F.A. regulations have been broken?

this is justice at its best. i saw about 15 lads bashing the hell out of each other for what seemed no reason saturday night, police turned up and told them to move on with no arrests, these blokes swore at gills fans. oh well. it happens. who on here hasn't sworn at an away fan? plus i no a lot of gills fans were coming down looking for trouble that night. one of there fans come up to me about 7 o'clock outside the bp garage asking where all the boys drink because they wanted to pay them a visit.

Exactly what i'd do. I can't see how the ban would work TBH. If it was me, i can't see how they'd never catch me. It's all about wearing a balaclava

Woo, I think even the most dumbest of stewards would think that someone wearing a balaclava in August is slightly odd.
