Two "yobs" banned

Three years for swearing and making ****er signs at the opposition fans? :D

Obviously you could understand it if there was racism involved but it sounds like the kind of thing you see most weeks at Prittlewell station.

Sounds like one of those games where the police have gone a bit over the top again, as they have done for Borient home games recently. I've got no problem with police trying to prevent trouble from breaking out and obviously we don't know the circumstances but it sounds as though I'd better hold my tongue a bit more when I go to games if this is what you get bans for these days :stunned:

Police have warned trouble will not be tolerated at Roots Hall and are seeking to keep hooligans at least three quarters of a mile away from the ground on match days, and out of pubs and clubs in the town centre for four hours either side of the game.

WTF!?! Where are they gonna keep them then?

It's a joke, but what more do you expect? The police made it quite clear the tone they'd be taking with football fans when they started using Anti-Terror powers against them.

Blimey I know one of them as well - five years is a joke.

I take it you know the older one of the pair ;) then again who don't!

Still I understand the police have a job to do but this really does seem way over the top.

I agree with the reader comment below, banning someone for 3 years just for "abusing" opposition fans seems a bit harsh. Obviously I don't know exactly what happened but banter between fans is part of the game. But I suppose they need to increase their arrest stats.

So what will Ron Martin get for abusing/goading Southend fans?

I really think this is crazy, goading/jeering opposing fans is part of supporting football, they weren't in any way violent, come on, let's get real. UTB.

Yeah - that reminds me what happened to Littleman? Still about?

Mike, yeah he is still around not as regular as once was but still about none the less - most of the others can be found in the Nelson or Railway at home games too.

In case people fail to realise, it was the Magistrate not the Police Officer that dished out the punishment.....

Maybe the feeling is that if they make an example then others may think twice before doing the same. 3 years for goading sounds OTT but we don't know all the details - for instance, maybe it wasn't a first offence? I have no idea but the magistrate would have had all the facts.

As for the other one, he'd breached a 3 year banning order. Sorry, no sympathy.

Yes but he had to of been arrested by an officer. If it was just goading then surely common sense would be to tell the boys to politely p*ss off or they'll get arrested.

Typical police trying to reach their arrest targets!

Opposite platforms at Prittlewell station?

Who walks to Prittlewell to get a train into Southend. By the time you've got to the Station and waited for the train you could already be in the centre of Southend.

If it were our supporters on a platform and opposition fans were doing the same I am sure there would be comments on here if the police did not intervene.....

Maybe they were warned and chose to ignore it

When people break the law, why is it the ******* police's fault for catching and arresting them rather than the unlucky hard done by victims for breaking the law in the first place?

At think whats the issue here is that if others felt threatened by their behaviour then they had to be dealt with. I use Prittlewell station to travel back to Rayleigh and there are lots of Dads who take their kids to the games and this shouldnt be happening really. Now after all that the punishment seems harsh as you regularly see fighting in Southend High St on a saturday night and do the offenders get 5 year banning orders from clubs and bars??? No most get a caution and thats it
